That time of year again :2Rolleyes unfortunately no cheap fixes... I\'ve now got 14 days to make a decision on which new exhaust system to fit and diagnose my puny handbrake.

what are my options exhaust-wise for an s5 with a standard turbo? I\'m looking for a full system, ideally twins to fill out the bomex bumper, but I accept there\'s not much choice sometimes. Haven\'t really got a budget (impossible with these cars :Laugh) so if it needs doing I don\'t mind splashing out on something jdm which sounds nice.

Did a quick search around and most places that accomodate FCs seem to sell HKS power flow or Blitz nur spec, are these my only choices?

Any advise much appreciated :)

grinder

puny handbrake - yeah mine failed on that one

there is a lever on the back of the rear brakes and just gets really still ( cable operated )

all i did was to remove the pads - work the piston a bit and soaked the lever in wd40 - worked like a charm :D

awesome, i\'ll give that a go tomorrow. fingers crossed it will be an easy fix :2Confused

The rear brakes are a daft design as there is no dust shield over the spring mechanism.  Lube it up carefully and gently start working it back and forth - one it\'s moving freely cover it with grease.  If you\'ve not changed the rear pads recently you may as well do this at the same time.  You will need a calliper winding tool (under a tenner usually) to wind the piston back in.

The rear brakes is a common issue :wave

grinder

under a £10 for a winding tool - WHERE - cost me £19 for mine

BUT i have to say - it turned a seemingly impossible job into a 20 second one :D

i know they do cheapies where its looks like a block of metal - but mine is a proper one :D

if you are close to me you could always borrow it - but the UK is a big place :)

Prof

I got mine for under £10 - it\'s one of those shiny metal lumps - bit like a puzzle - you can re arrange the parts to do different styles of piston - works a charm - and as you say Stu - makes a long job very quick.

Mine is the same as this

thats the same as mine Prof - was about £19 in the local motor factors place

worth its weight in gold for doing the rear pads - takes about 10 seconds to wind the piston back in

i spend the best part of an hour trying to wind mine in - then took the plunge and bought one of the tools :D :D

Wow! I could have done with one of those: I used screw drivers, chisels...anything with a long thin shaft! Took ages.

mukumu kurubushi

grinder - thanks for the offer, but you live about 3 hours away! :D I\'ll try to pop into my local halfrauds and invest in one of these.

still open to suggestions about exhausts ;)

grinder

whats wrong with the exhaust exactly ???

Nikp : i used long nose pliers , spanners and all sorts of stuff - just a knightmare let alone the amount of skin missing off my knuckles when it went wrong ! LOL

I have a twin exit fujitsubo exhaust on at the moment, apparently its the pipe connecting to the drivers side silencer which had deteriorated beyond repair.

(bear with me, newbie question warning) Im guessing that a new system is needed unless the silencers can be directly swapped out?

grinder

you should be able to just replace the silencer
