Hi there, I just won the Ebay auction for Baz-7\'s RX-7 FB, I have yet to pay or pick up the car, but I ma very excited as I wanted one for over twenty years. There was a red one that always used to go by my parents house when I was 15 and I fell in love with the looks and the sound.I nearly bought one in 1992 but it was in a state, then I nearly bought one off a mate but it had stood for 2 years, and needed new brakes and about as much work if not more than the Ebay one.

I am looking forward to finding out as much as I can about it and hoping that I\'ll have the patience and £££ to restore some life back into it.

In the mean time I will read the FAQs and try to use the search so as not annoy members with my million questions.

Thanks in advance,

Ary

Greetings Ary. Welcome to the 1st Generation Section. I have taken the liberty of amending my personal register of 1st gens to show your car now in Wales.
Just ask about anything and there\'s a few guys on here most helpful.

Welcome aboard :D

Parts are still available, replacement brakes aren\'t silly money for remanufactured ones.

Hope you enjoy it :D

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I have spoken to David and will pick the car up as soon as insurance is sorted either Monday or Tuesday.

I already have a list of things that I am taking in the other car. Tow rope, fluids, full set of tools, jack and my RAC card!

I almost finished my other project ( NSX ZAZ-RGT ) and also managed to tile the kitchen as well, so while I was in my old ladies good books I took the plunge. :)

Cheers,

Include oil and coolant in the fluids. The engine uses oil because some of the sump oil is metered into the carburettor to lubricate the tip seals. Bog standard mineral oil eg Duckhams or GTX. The handbook from memory says check every fuel stop but that\'s excessive. Also make sure the expansion bottle on the coolant is up to the max mark cold. In my experience these engines are very reliable but are very unforgiving if you don\'t keep them happy with oil and coolant.
Enjoy the drive.

Thanks for the advice, I am really looking forward to this. I hope to have a go at changing fluids and sorting the thermal reactor thing ASAP.

I\'ve read on other posts that the best way to deal with the thermal reactor broken pipe issue. Is it possible to reweld the broken air pipe as a temporary solution, or would that not be a good idea.

A local exhaust shop has built several exhaust for my cars over the years and the owner is extremely capable and reasonable on price. My goal would be to get a set of stainless manifolds.

Regarding consumables, will the mazda dealer have the oil, fuel, air filter and the few o-rings that I need or do I need a specialist?

I find myself thinking about this too much and I have not even gotten the car yet.

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

What a lovely story - pretty much like one many of us share. I always wanted RX7\'s as a child from when my Dad was driving a 323 and really wanted a Montrose and a 1st gen!

I\'m lucky enough to have RX7\'s and my other half (Brett on here) to have an RX7 and a Montrose now too! You\'ll love your Rex!

You should be able to get most consumables from any motor factor, but probably ordered in for you next day, rather than off the shelf.  Mazda are often more expensive for parts, but it depends what it is and many of the specialists on here can help too. I\'d just shop around for the best price :)

I think it\'s great to be thinking about giving the car a good service like you are - it\'s always a great place to start to get to know your car, make it yours and bond with it a bit!

Enjoy!

Thanks for the advice I\'ll shop around for bits tomorrow. I just purchased the familly membership, any idea how long it normally takes for the status to change?

I think your man will have a fit when he sees the front exhaust silencer construction. He may be able to do a repair but if it\'s gone where I think it\'s gone, he\'ll do a lot of hmmmm. harrr....
Since the Mazda Rear box goes every 4 years or so, look closely at that before deciding. I know Baz7 had located a both complete 2nd hand stainless system and a new stainless system and I\'d sent him by email some general fitting instructions for a Stainless system which I can send to you. Think about it.
Re the consumables, I can post the part Nos for the oil filter and sump washer, but my Nos. are for Series 3 (1983-85 approx) and yours is Series 2 (1981-83 approx). I would never use anything but a genuine Mazda Oil Filter and I think the same one is used on a lot of other Mazda cars. Watch the Air Filter as that could be V Expensive from a dealer. Suggest get it touch with one of the specialist suppliers.
Oil is oil for these engines, as said previously good quality mineral oil eg Duckhams or GTX. Tesco do a good line in GTX. Dealer price will deffo be too high for this simple standard oil.

Thanks a lot David, I called the dealer today and the chap was straight out of Little Britain ( computer says no! ) without a chassis number.

As for my exhaust man, he is a bit of a magician but if too far gone I might go with the stainless one, at which point I will be grateful for any links etc of how to get it done. I am lucky enough to have a pit in my garage so most repairs, should be easy. Saying that I still remember when a Lambda sensor broke in the NSX stainless manifolds! It was entertaining to say the least.

Any idea on the membership issue as I have paid, but it still shows guest?

Cheers,
