Regarding my cooling system..
got a phone call this morning from my garage about the cooling system.
I was still 1/2 asleep when he rang but basically...
-system is pressurised (explains the pop lol)
-exhaust gasses are in cooling system (explains the pop again)
-engine uses a lot of oil (not sure why or how)
-hydrocarbon was tested in exhaust and it not only hit the roof but went so far beyond its gone into space.

so.. im thinking.. MORE POWER!!!! lol
oh, and water seals have gone.

kinda interesting as this time last yr the compression was 6.5 ave in rear and 6.2 ave fronts.
was smoking a bit n startup has always been bit iffy.

i\'m guessing thats why my fc feels bit sluggish when take off..

Opportunity for porting then :driving

Just send it to Carl mate, get it ported and at least then you will have a good engine for many years to come. You could pay £600 for a 2nd hand engine and it may never be what it says or what you want so might as well spend a few pennies more and get it done your way. You know what I am paying so i\'m sure Carl will give you a good deal as well.

just beware, you cant port too much on a stock turbo,  my advice would be to decide what power you want, what you are prepared to spend and over how long, if you can afford to have the car off the road, what you want the car for, how much you can do yourself, how long you intend keeping the car and much life if left in your floor pan.....

if you are getting drawn along the route of more power, be prepared for some heartache and spending lots of money!  trust me, i have been there............ 8 times!
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

But what fun you had trying along the way eh!!

He will be running a bigger turbo, injectors, FMIC, Apexi PFC so I think money has already been spent.  You are totally right though and I think I have learned that you have to plan the route carefully and within the budget.  The shorter the time span to get it done the lower the budget compared to spending a year renovating and spending a dam sight more as you go along rather than in one chunck.

carl will be taking care of my porting needs :Giggle
HUGE A$$ street ports :Giggle
as pete said.. i got bigger tub already (not much bigger and still looks small in hand lol)

its more of a play toy than daily drive so can afford to play silly beggars with the fc lol

not planning to sell it EVER!! :Giggle not after putting so much headache in already plus its a happy thing that i cant think another car can do the same. so worth the money.

i guess i should of put a budget on this rather than as cheap as possible :Giggle

i pretty much got everything i need apart from brakes! and WI.
so this rebuild will be the \'last\' part for power wise.
then other things will be normal wear and tear.

just wish i can do more mechanical stuff.. n had an empty garage also :Giggle:Giggle

proof of how wise it is to spend more time on the fc than just one chunk like me...
im sure everyone will see a BIG differance between pete\'s fc n mine.. tho mine is more fast dirty tramp than show car.. be nice to get show car sondition but i cant do that much n cant afford to spend that much for other ppl to do work on her.
pete\'s fc = front cover in mag
mine (when i finish) = readers rides hidden in back of mag lol

just picked up my fc from garage. they tested teh hydrocarbons on quite a warm engine
hydrocarbon = 2700ppcm, should be 1200
oxygen level = 7, should be 3 (not sure on the units for this)
so yeah, both are double the pass value!

had a look under the car also, pretty good, just exhaust touching rear beam (of some kind), can do with a bit of grease on the lower coil mounts (or there about, nothing bad) and only other comment he made was the front should be raised about an inch so the steering tie rods are horizontal.

I\'m almost certain that it\'s Carbon Monoxide % that\'s been measured - pass value is 3.5% for a non cat test.
