ok here it goes, looks like im gonna order up loads of bits and bobs tomorrow to service the fc over the weekend, hopefully sort out the rough idle too.

list of the weekwend/evening to do:

change and flush oil
oil filter
fuel filter + check voltage at pump
plugs
inspect leads/replace
fit new radiator(much larger one)
flush + replace coolant
gearbox oil
diff oil
fit new springs

got a few questions

im not 100% sure what oil it is currently running, other than the part synthetic top up im using. is it ok to change from part synthetic to mineral?

what plugs and oil does the fc use?

can coupe lowering springs go onto a cab ok?
i was going to fit Gmax springs since it has koni adjustable shocks already, any problems with them/ better recomendations for £100 ish

is there any need for a write up of the service? so others can follow suit in this credit crunch and save some money??

oh 35 mins enough time to do this :Giggle

thanks

I would get an oil drain plug, replaces the sump bolt and you can do an oil change without needing to jack up the car and its NO MESS :D its awesome

Ok, so in my user manual plugs are br9et all round. And oil viscosity is 10w30, 10w40 or 20w40 nice choice at least :)

just noticed that the plugs listed in the FAQ are different to that in my manual!

BUR9EQ are the plugs if I recall (you can use the same plugs in all four holes - don\'t really need to do the Leading/Trailing thing)

I use 10W40 Part Synthetic, but I\'m no longer burning engine oil in the rotor housings - as I\'ve a 2 stroke feed for that now.

As for the springs - the Vert is quite a bit heavier, and the springs for a Coupe may not be stiff enough for the vert.  There are only a couple of companys that make springs for the vert - I\'ve got the Racing Beat springs on mine with Koni shocks and it seems a good combo.

hmmm its about 150kgs-200kgs heavier, about the same as 2 passengers and a boot of luggage. im guessing they **should** be ok, the racing beat ones come from the states dont they? i fancied having them fitted my monday night.

I know people have used Eibach springs with no issues on the vert - it does sit slightly lower than they would on a coupe - but I guess the best thing is to try your springs - if the ride is bad, you can always pop the old ones back on :)

i had eibach on my bmw, they were fantastic :yes

i think if the eibach were ok, then the gmax will be fine, there progressivly wound too. i think thats the only looks mod she\'ll need!

im not convinced by those sump drain plugs, i\'d be paranoid that it would undo itself and kill my engine:eek

looks like im all set then.

is there any need for a how too service an FC ?

I\'ve had mine in for the best part of 3 years and not had any issues - they don\'t sit any prouder than a sump nut, and the \'tap\' lever is held by a spring and ball into a recess, so you have to push it and rotate to free it - not an easy motion for a glancing blow. No more messy hands - and with oil change every 3000 miles (6000 if you don\'t push it hard) then it pay\'s for itself in no time !

It\'s always good to have - the board has many people on it - I suppose a lot of folks are comfortable with a basic service - but there\'s always new owners and things aren\'t always in the same place - a pictorial guide is always a winner :cheers
