I\'m looking to get my head round road tax on FDs as I\'m in the market for one. :)
This is what I think so far, could anyone in the know see if I\'ve got it yet.

Pre 2001 registration
UK model registered as 2.6 pays standard 2.6 fee of £185pa
Import model registered as 2.6 as above
Import model registered as 1.3 pays standard 1.3 fee of £120pa

Post 2001 registration
This should only be imports as Mazda had stopped selling UK models right?
Imports now all depend on emissions the same as any other car registered post 2001.

Post 2006 registration
Again imports only.  Does anything change for these?  Does this date mark the huge new tax rises that they are currently delaying?

Insurance note:  I believe from other threads on MRC that this has no effect on insurance as all are insured as 2.6 (assuming correct database).

This is based on a few threads on here and this gov page:

Unless your importing it yourself now, tax all depends on how it was registered when it originally entered the country (and how nice the importers register person was!!)

Mine was imported in 2001 and was registered as 1308cc. But this loophole was closed c. 2002 if memory serves me right. So it will be nigh-on impossible to get a newly imported one taxed as 1308cc these days. I\'ve also heard rumpours about the DVLA wrinting to people informing them that its been changed for them AFTER already registered as a 1308cc. Although I got a new logbook sent to me the other month and nothing was mentioned then so take that with a pinch of salt.

As for insurance, yes, all FDs need to be registered as the 2616cc model - insurers were quick to catch on that a 1300cc piston engine wasn\'t exactly comparable with a twin-tubby 13b!!

you\'ll probs find (unless you go to a specialist) that most insurers can never seem to find the correct model for an imported FD. They all have daft names like coupe turbo or inj cabriolet etc as they dont differentiate between FCs and FDs. Best way to do it is to make sure you tell the insurer that its a 2616cc engine as the FC was only 2354cc.

yehreally

mines registered as a 2000cc ???? but the tax is advised as how the insurance company views the vehicle......which is 2.6 :Hammer
