I went to do a track day @ Bedford Autodrome today but was not allowed on. The Rex is kicking out 108 db @ 4500 rpm, their limit was 101 db static and 86 db rolling. This causes me a major headache as the Rex is meant to be my track car. I recently installed a cheap exhaust from ebay (300 quid) as my old one rusted away, I have no CAT and only one silencer. There was a provided exhaust bung but it is so crap it actually made the sound reading raise by 1 db!

What kind of exhausts do most people on here use for 300/350 bhp spec? It must reduce the sound level to the required levels of most uk tracks whilst  still sounding good on the open road. Also if possible nice and cheap :)

any ideas?

Thanks
Waddock

try a decent silenced midpipe, should make a difference

Racing Beat single.... nice and quiet at idle and I run 500hp. May be a little restrictive if running a single like I do but deffo alot quieter than alot of exhausts on the market.

Hi RX7

According to the dyno I\'m running at just over 350 at the flywheel and I have a single Racing Beat without cat and a few people have commented on how quiet it is but it does give a nice note.

108? Jesus christ...

I have a Racing Beat twin at the rear, no cats, and have tried several silenced mid-pipes to get around this problem. The biggest you can fit on an FD, and i believe the quietest (this would follow, as its the largest) is the FEED silenced mid-pipe. It is 45cms (foot and a half) long.

You can get them from New Era fairly quickly. They will be cheaper than anyone in the UK and just as fast. Trust me on this. Bear in mind you should only order this pipe and if you are offered any others do not take them , even if they claim they are the same. Stick to the FEED.

Even still, you can forget Bedford or Goodwood. The drive-by limits are laughable and I have been kicked out of both. When i got booted out of Bedford they at least had the \'one strike\' rule which meant they would black-flag you and you could \'make changes\' to your car (or just drive around on half-throttle all day until you know where the microphones are, then start opening it up slowly between them). Still a frustrating day. Now they are \'no strikes\'; you hit the limit you go home. Screw paying £200-odd for that.

Goodwood is worse. Forget it. Their 10-cars-on-track day is 98db static and driveby. I hit 100 in the morning and 99 in the afternoon, as soon as i went near the throttle (i was there to learn the circuit so i did so before getting heavy with the right foot. It worked; i won the sprint there two weeks later :) ). Oh, and there trackdays are £320!

The Goodwood Sprints are 5-cars-on-track days (like some trackdays there, probably even more expensive) and are 103db; no probs with foot to the floor. Worth going if you can afford a 5-car day; great track, very fast, cambered, dangerous.

Snetterton; no noise problems for me. 103 i believe. Bit dull as tracks go though. Worth a visit.

Rockingham; no noise problems for me. Again, 103 i believe. Better than Bedford anyway, especially if you go with BookaTrack who have a special arrangement with them and use the \'International Long\' circuit which uses part of the Oval (Turn 4) as well as the whole infield.

Castle Combe; no noise problems for me. 101 on gate and driveby. Which i was pleased to pass; no-one said a word all day. Great track; old school, bumpy, cambered.

Lydden; no noise problems for me. Again, 103 i believe. Tiny track, but fun as its hilly and cambered. Cheap as well (£130), and you can pass on both sides without invitiation so its much more like a test day. More nutters here; if you go in the fast group you\'d better be ready!

I routinely get 94-96 on the gate, have even seen 92; its the drivebys that are the problem. If you want to be utterly sure then lose the external wastegate and get a dump valve as well as the aforementioned mid-pipe and a decent silenced tail pipe. I love my external wastegate so i am keeping it; i can live without Bedford.

Ive got a trackday at Goodwood next month and fingers crossed I\'ll be OK.
I got an R-magic center  box and recently bought this 2nd hand back box.
Not sure of the make but it is Much quieter than the old set up i had. You can see how large it is with the Mole grips sat on top!
Papercup are you taking part in the Stages at G/wood in Feb?

Hi RX7

Still running it in, but I\'ll come along and post it on HJC to see if anyone else fancies coming along

lockwood77

I had a 5Zigen cat-back fitted, not sure which model, that was fine - registered 92gb static at Cadwell and never had any problems at Donington (98db).

Thought it was part of the sprints this year, but since learnt its forming part of the rally stuff, but a tarmac stage.6th feb. dont think youd want to put your Rx it to some pallets or bales down the Start/finish line! great spectator day though!

DMDRIFTING

Don\'t mean to jump on this thread, Goodwood a pretty tight on noise levels, I failed the noise test after the briefing one morning, had to Portsmouth to borrow a bung from a Nur-Spec. Luckily it then passed!

Whats going on this coming Saturday? FD\'s only? I\'d love to come!

Back on topic, i ran an Ebay exhaust on the fd, it was stupidly loud, failed at both Landow, Castle Combe and even got collared at The Nurburgring for noise .

I used the same Nur -Spec bung on all occasions and it passed, so you might be able to get one of them, from somewhere?

Im currently running an HKS Silent Power, its much better,  and i\'ve heard  the silenced mid pipes make a big difference!

Also are you running Non-Sequential?

Paul-Tll

Its just a trackday with easytrack 30 random cars and all booked at the min.
Still running seq. but do have a midle box, so fingers crosed ?
When you had the \'NUR-spec + bung which middle box did you have or de-cat pipe and down pipe / Just trying to work out ALL the configurations.
With r-magic middle box, back box (with bung) and stock D.pipe I made 104db
so new back box should take me down enough I hope. It certainly seems alot
quiter.
Just lookin forward to the weekend now. I\'ll let you know how I get on!

Im at castle combe this coming weekend not been out in the track car since trackfest in september(i did the track day the day befor the show to),

really cant wait as dragon have since done a lot of work for me inc a clutch so i can turn the boost up without having to worry about it slipping:-)

wadock if your still after an exhaust i have a knightsports complete system inc downpipe running into two 74mm pipes(i think thats right i\'ve not seen it for ages!),through several silencers where the cat would be then into a nice big free flowing rear silencer,i dont have db figures but cant imagine it being more than 95 decibles.

A link to some pics if it.
