i have just fitted a saxo pump into my fd and was wondering how it is wired into the car?, i know you need to run it to a switch live and that i am also after fitting a switch to it to be able to turn off the pump when i want, can i run the wiring to something other than the battery coz i have moved it into the interior and wanting as little wires running throught the bulk head as possible,

also i recieved the pump with a red and black wire coming out of it to a connector, do i need any more of the saxo loom coz i have read about a relay or something which needs to be fitted or is this already in the pump?

cheers in advance if anyone has any insight, my head is battered doing this!! haha electrics aint my forte!!

If it just has two wires then it will be positive and negative.
And I\'d suggest running it from a relay.

Find a switched live source (no idea where there is one in the bay, sorry!) and run a feed from that to a relay coil. Run the negative of that coil to an eart. Then, run a permanent direct live (fprobably from the battery) to the switched terminal of the relay. Run a wire from the other side of that to the red wire on the PAS pump, and then earth the black one.

As for running a switch inline - why?
Is it so you can turn the PAS off? If so then maybe not the greatest idea - PAS racks are really not designed to be run without pressure assistance - you put massive amounts of pressure on the internal parts that could lead to a catastrophic failure. You really need something like Atomic Rex\'s manual rack for that.

I used a Saxo pump on my FD. I used a relay and wired the pump back to the battery via a new fuse box.

Buy a big relay - the pump will take quite a current on full steering lock. I think my relay was rated at 40 amps. The pump will blow 20 amp fuses after a short time as a guide.

I used a live feed from the igniter to trigger the relay. It can be found at the condenser, by the ABS valve block. I took the earth via a switch inside the car so that you can turn the power steering off. Whilst you would never want it turned off while driving, I left it turned off while I warmed the car up and let it cool before stopping the engine. But then I have a small odyssey battery.....

awesome! dont seem as bad as i thought then thanks for that dudes, 2 things i am still iffy on are

1 where do you mean by the abs unit, i have just removed this also so i have loadsa room, is there a connector here i can pull switched live off?

2 relays baffle me, can i just simply by a relay from anywhere? what does a relay actually do? what type of relay do i need?

cheers boyos

I\'m more and more tempted to do this with mine, whats it like at high speed? Got any pics of it installed I\'d like to see how much space it takes up.
Cheers
