i doubt any one in here without looking at a wheel size just to get in a car and say the handling was different better worse by driving it . you couldnt tell the difference between a 17 18 19 inch wheel

sorry but i believe this post to be absolute tosh

when i had my 200sx i tried it on 17\'s and 18\'s and bolted a set of 19\'s on for a laugh, there is a HUGE difference im sorry to say! just driving down a road you can feel the difference!

main difference besides tram lining is the fact the side walls are normally alot thiner and stiffer the bigger you go they make the ride alot harsher...

thank you some one with the correct point bigger wheels means stiffer ride not mondeo or tractor i like tram lining in  a car the more feed back the better .17s are good but i find the ride soft and to sloppy . but then i use to own a westfield at 18 and i like a stiff go cart ride

more tramlining means you\'ve screwed the ride by arsing up the geometry and offsets with wheels that are too big

if you find the handling soft and sloppy on 17s i suggest you modify the suspension properly

gandyRX

ive got mine on 19"s and lowerd on tein suspension, there ok but im kinda thinking of going smaller, they look ok but rub quite abit on lock plus the tyres are really expensive, heres a pic

also if anyones interested im willing to swap them for a set of deepdish wheels either 17"s or 18"s with or with out tyres, the 19"s have 4 brand new tyres and have only done 100miles and are in good condition

18\'s = Mondeo
17\'s = Just about right

Just my personal experience.

Heres a video of me driving my Rx7 with mondeo 18 inch tractor wheels around the nurburgring in 8 minutes and overtaking a porsche GT3RS in the process

And another of me stuck the the ass of a porsche GT3 that will not move over...

Bloody mondeo\'s!

:rollini like tramlining not more tramlining i have the right offset and right suspension settings , i just have stiffer small side wall in the tyre thanks but i guess you d know that already huh

hehe this thread is funny, i lke it when arguments start bout little things :D

i would not of thought that putting a bigger wheel on makes your ride stiffer? :S

if you change the wheels from 17 - 19\'s with the same size tyre wall the ride would be the same (in a straight line)? just more likely to catch the inner arch over bumps?

i still say 17 and 18" wheels are the best!

there is a vid on youtube off a dvd from the land down under of a rx-7 that has 20\'s on and he sort of track/drifts it, but the pressure on the hubs and diff off the strain of trying to move the 20\'s causes it the fook the diff!

@ Envy

If you make the alloy larger, but don\'t change the rolling radius of the wheel, then something else has to get smaller.  By changing up to 18" or 19", the sidewall of the tyre gets reduced - it\'s the only way to maintain the radius, and ensure it all still fits in the wheel arch ;)

Besides, it\'s that very reduction in the tyre wall that makes people think 18" or 19" \'looks better\' than 17" wheels...

ENVYD

yeah i know mate! but i have had both 17" and 18" wheels with 40 walls and the ride did not get any stiffer?? (on my 200sx)!

and you said it \'looks better\', i think big wheels with skinny rubber looks fart! and is in no way any gain to performance or handling and there for taking something away from what the car is all about!

but that is just my view and other people have diffrent one\'s

MaLicE

the 40 on the sidewall changes for the size of the tyre... a 235 wide tyre with a 40 profile, has a different sidewall height to a 255 wide tyre with a 40 profile! the profile is a percentage of the width...

so a 17 with 235/40 has a different sidwall height to a 235/40/18

If you kept the sidewall the same, then you\'re right - you wouldn\'t expect a bit change in ride quality.  However, you will have changed the rolling radius, which means the speedo etc will be out, and you are likely to have clearance issues etc (as far as I understand these things, anyway).

MaLicE

the speedo on my 200 and also on my fd both over read anyway... 40mph on the speedo is 35mph actual speed... thats on stock wheels on the fd...
