Right, I\'ve just reassembled my car after a total rebush and rear end strip down - everything from the box back was removed from the underside of the car and repalced/rebuilt as neccessary - brakes, bushes, etc.

Put it all back together, and all seemed good for the first 80 or so miles.
However, now I\'m getting a strange vibration/buzzing intermittently..

It randomly appears , and is a very loud vibration/buzzing noise that appears to be coming from the rear end, but obviously it\'s hard to tell as sound resonates through the shell.
Once I go above 50 or so it goes.

The wierd thing is, that when i dab the brakes it will go temporarily, then come back maybe 10s later.
It also does the same if i yank the handbrake.

It does it in gear and out, foot on the clutch, and foot up. If i pop it into neutral when it starts and roll to a halt it will keep going until the car comes to a rest, then stop, so it\'s only when moving.

It changes pitch slightly with speed, but not really.

At first I thought it was the handbrake cables rubbing either the prop or driveshafts, but they seem to be well clear.
All the heatshields seem ok too.

The only thing that hasn\'t been replaced are the toe links, so i havea  rather ropey old set on there that have some very worn aftermarket pillowball joints on them - I\'m wondering if it could be these, but I think i may be grabbing at straws.

Anyone got any ideas before I tear this damn thing apart again? I\'m at my wits end :(

Loose wheel? Did you tighten the wheel nuts in sequence? Or a wheel may need balancing? Are the brake pads loose? Wheel bearing?
Could be something is loose, when you tab the breaks intertia would throw everything forward and then after a time whatever it is would work itself loose and start vibrating again. But i\'ve not got a clue as to what could be loose, sorry bud, hope you get it sorted
:Laugh LOL

Cheers bobbit :)
Deffo not the hwwles - they\'ve been on and off a fair few times since it started, al torqued up to 85nm in the right sequence. It\'s a much harsher noise than an out of balance wheel.

Pads are in solidly, with all retaining clips. Howver, the \'V\' clip is missing from the drivers side, but I\'m not sure i can see it being that?

I figured the same about the brakes jolting it, but it\'s hard to tll if it\'s handbrake or just brakes that chnage it.

I know you said you checked the heat sheilds but re check the big one that goes above the back box as these fracture where they join the body and you cant see this untill you drop the backbox down,

This gives a rattle like you have a piece of suspension falling off.
All the best Clive

Heatshields are deffo fine - they\'ve been off and undersealed underneath, as well as the entire exhaust system from the frontpipe back - i checked that last night, as well as the plastic guard for the fuel filler pipe.

To be honest itsounds like something rubbing on the drivetrain as is goes when I coast to a complete halt, but I\'m scuppered if i can see what :(

Just spotted this,

If you have grooved discs on the back and spring clip on the pad at the bottom then the pads make a hell of a rattling noise

Nasty vibration from underside

you might want to see a doctor about that :Giggle

Discs are plain and in reasonable health - the calipers are almost identical to those on my old car and they never had springs, and i never experienced the rattle.

I\'m sure it\'s drivetrain realted, but i don\'t know what :(

EPIC WIN!!!! :D
After a week of freezing cold nights spent under the car taking .... off, double checking it, checking clearances of lines and cables, checking torques on EVERYTHING, i popped off the rear calipers and remembered the lack of V clips on one of the sides. Checked the other, it was there...
I stuck my head in the loft where the remains of my refurb toolset was, and lo and behold, there it was.
Installed, it, went out for a 10 mile drive...
Silence :)
Bloody brilliant!

My arrogantly beleiveing it couldn\'t be that didn\'t pay off  My guess is that for the first miels i did, the copper grease was \'sticking\' the pads to the caliper, so when it retracted, it pulled the pads back with the surface friction. After a while, that effect wore off, and it started wobbling about against the disc.

I\'m peed off with myself for not listening to others advice, and elated a the same time. Time to get in the miles running in the bushes, then get it aligned!
Cheers loads to everyone for the advice and pointers :)

Just read your thread, glad you got it sorted.
