Removing FD Oil Cooler Hoses

I am stripping some second hand FD Oil coolers prior to having them pressure tested.
 I was advised that before unscrewing the hoses, I should remove the " C Washers" or I would damage the cooler threads.

 Well I can\'t find anything that looks like a "C Washer" but I have found some circlips and pulled them off.
 Is it safe to unscrew the hoses now.
 Any other tips & tricks on oil coolers I should know ??

they dont unscrew, they should just pull off unless they are rusted on. they dont have a thread in them.

Aah - hence the circlips.  Looks like its time for a whole loada WD40!

Yeah, they can be a bit of a pain to get off! Wiggle pull, prod, smack.. they\'ll come off.

Yep.
The light went on.
The big hex nuts are not part of the hose, they are part of the cooler.
The hoses are a tapered fit in the "hex nut" couplings and held in place  by the circlips. The hoses pull off after removing the circlips....with a lot of WD-40 , leverage between the hose amd the hex nut and some applied violence.

Its interesting that the coolers have a gadget in them that looks like a spring loaded bypass valve. Does this work on pressure or temperature ??

I bought the coolers second hand and want to get them pressure tested  to see if they are OK, before using them to replace one of my coolers which is cracked.
I never see more than 4 bar oil pressure, so I guess 4 to 6 bar would be OK.
Anyone got any ideas on a max test pressure.

Yes.  Each cooler has it\'s own built-in thermostat. Important to know if you plan on changing the coolers for something aftermarket as you will need a seperate t-stat.
