Is there anyone that can either have a look or recommend someone near Watford (Herts) way that can help with a starting issue?

I have changed the battery - no difference

I have changed the plugs (BUR9EQP\'S) - no diference

I tried a compression test but just couldnt get the damn piston tester in either of the top two holes

Its a single turbo and was rebuilt about 3.5 years ago by Hurley and has only done approx. 5-6000miles.

It does start and idles perfectly (albeit at 1050rpm when warm). Its takes some time before it starts from cold (three attempts) and when warm takes 5 or 6 attempts sometimes more? The engine seems to be fine when running, just difficult to start......can anyone help???

Oh also it sometimes idles way to high and gets stuck there, around 1600rpm when warm after driving.

When you are attempting to start the car, does it seem to catch as you let go of the key?

Is it difficult to start after being left for 10-15mins once warmed up?

Hi Brett - it has a push button start When i press this its like it catches about 90% but still needs that last 10% just to fire it up if that makes sense?

I left it for about 15-20mins when i tried to do the compression test, and it started on the 2nd or 3rd attempt.

hairyhoover

take a look at the recent flooding tips thread. See if that helps

Could it be that too much fuel is being injected during start up?? Hence the high idle too?

Anyone else able to suggest anything - or had similar problems?

If this is a recent issue, the simplest explanation is that your system is dumping in fuel for a cold start but the spark isn\'t quite hot enough.
A couple of 7\'s in the leading plugs should see it right

If not you might want to consider swapping out the HT leads to make sure the spark going through them is good and strong.  Always amazes me how much engine response is improved when crap leads are replaced with good ones.

Brett - can you elaborate on your comments made above in post 2, would like to know if you have an idea what may be up with the FD?
