Quote from: adereed;571085Sorry for the thread hi jack but is it (air pump removal) easy enough to do Brett? I have no need for mine but kinda worried about removing it for some reason. I take it its just a case of unbolting it then blanking off the holes that are left.

Totally easy enough and should only be done if you have no cat and want to get rid of the emissions (in some way), you will need a double belt for the water pump though but you will get away without it. Its not really going to get you more BHP (what this thread is about) but it does free up loads of room.
One easish way to gain a few more BHp is to have a very free flowing intake, ideally alloy tube and not the standard mazda stuff, get yourself a decent air filter as well.  Ditching the standard air box will unfortunately allow more hot air into the system but with good ducting this can be reduced.  A decent header/exhaust will and can give some conciderable gains, on a TII a free flow from the turbo back can give 60BHP increase!!. However doing all the above will need some sort of fuel control ie a ECU to really get the best from it to ensure a good A/F mix.  Try some of the Aussie sites as they are well into the NA stuff.

You can also get some 6 port inserts to smooth the flow of air into the engines when the extra ports open :) Might help a tad

Cheers Pete. God to know. Got no cat so don\'t need the emissions side of things. Got an Apexi PFC on the way to sort fueling. I\'ll look out for a dual alt pully and some blanking plates. With it out of the way I can put some proper ducking upto the HKS airfilter.
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

You could of course Turbo your N/A.  A lot of people will tell you this isn\'t worth while - but check out Aaron Cake\'s build on the rx7club in the US - that started life as an N/A like yours and is now making some good power !
