Okay. Every time i try to search the forum i either click the little tab saying search and nothing happens or when it does i get the little search box and i type in something like "emitions" or "cat removal" something like that and it just throws lists and lists of largely unrelated recent posts.:2Mad

Anyway, enough ranting!

I\'m going to replace my exhaust with a straight through number quite soon because my standard one is rapidley becoming like a block of swiss cheese!

So i want to get a really good high flow system and i figure the best way to do that is cut out the Cat converter. But if i do that am i going to manage to pass my MOT emitions test? I doubt it.

Just wondering what everyone else has done that has removed the cat to be able to pass an MOT test?

Cheers.

Mine is running with neither pre-cat or main cat with straight though pipes and a silenced midbox, the only problem is when you take the air pump out, if you take the airpump out and you aren\'t running a different ECU it will fail lol its the air pump that makes the difference, it is for an FC that is, is yours an FC or an FD?

Sorry! Lol! I should have said. I\'ve got a 1990 FC3S Turbo II. Whats the deal with older cars? Do they get more levarage at the MOT station? And yes i\'d like to ditch the air pump and accociated gubbins.

I think i\'ve got to get a new ECU anyway AND a boost controler if i fit a new exhaust anyway right? Else i\'m likley to get boost creep?

Hey man Im not trying to be a smart bollix here but its spelt "emissions"..
Dont know will that help on your search but could be worth a try
(This is in no way a smart arse response, I am genuinely trying to help)

As for my actual input I do know older cars in Ireland get a higher emission allowance and I actually think rotarys are excluded due to their crazy levels.
How it works with the MOT I dont know but shur worth chancing anyway could surely get a loan of one for the test if you really do need it

this thread may help.. it helped me
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14205&highlight=air+pump

what ecu are you running?
if you run stock ecu with no cat then there are tricks to passing MOT. think that thread has covered some of it (ie using methanol i htink it was, make sure u giv it a nice oil change b4 mot and spark plugs and also make sure the engine is nice n hot b4 u take in for mot). else ask m1tch about \'corvette smog pump\' i\'m not that knoledgeable about that =s

also think with pre 91(?) cars they dont have to have a cat. with mot if emissions (however you spell it?!) fails on idle then they can test it whilst engine is at 3k revs or so.

(pls correct me if im wrong) hope tis helps =)
2 doritos on a stick woohoo :rollin

All FCs are precat (which is good for rotaries lol and 1 of the reasons why I bought an FC) mines a 91 and mines a precat, I think for the MOT a precat rotary is classed as a car from 1975 I think I read somewhere, so yeah having an FC means that they are more lenient on emissions. I would recomend as it says above to do a full oil and plug change :)

Archbish

as for the search box not appearing, it\'s to do with the size of your browser.  If you reduce the width of your browser too much, the box won\'t appear - known issue with vBulletin I think.

either increase the size of your browser or maximise it, and it\'ll all be good.

it won\'t get your car through an MOT tho... *grin*

A TII will pass the emissions test with no cats providing the O2 sensor is working correctly.
