if i was to single turbo the twin turbo rotary engine can i use the standard ecu?

i guess i would need to use a piggy back ecu with it?

or can the standard one be tuned to run just single?

i didnt get turbos or the pipes with the engine i bought so im trying to think of the easiest route to go.

cheers aj.

The standard ECU is not programmable, and therefore not possible to use. You\'ll need a standalone ECU. Most people, including myself, use the Apexi Power FC ECU.

batman

or have my twins and my twin ecu ?

your best bet is a apexi power fc and commander which can be had for around £500 plus getting it mapped on top of that, it is a complete replacement ecu you literally unplug the standard one and plug the apexi in, also it has a unit that plugs in claled the commander which can be used for basic mapping and also can display engine parameters such as water temp, engine temp, injector duty, knock level etc etc
All the specialists can map that ecu or know someone who will as its the most common for the FD.  If you are going single turbo there are also many other things you need to consider.

1.injectors, the standard ones will max out with more boost
2.fuel pump will need uprating
3.intercooler will need uprating as standard is very small
4.clutch - standard one wont handle the extra power for long
5. diff - wil either need bracing or changing to a uprated unit as wont handle the extra power for too long, sometimes you can get away with it

theres prob a few bits ive missed aswell but they are the main ones. the answer to all these depends on what turbo you are going for, what boost you are going to be running and what power you are hoping to get

thanks wells, ill bare that in mind for later in the year, for now i just want to get the engine in the mx5 and running, so ill just go for the twin turbos for now.

cheers aj

if the twins are working ok i would stick with them if i was you, will be very quick in a mx5

Tomcat

cheers :) think thats what ill do for now see how it feels.
