whats the lightest one to get then???i was told they are the heavist of the range and are 1600kgs...is the fd alot lighter...

BlitzBoy

Probably the base NA Coupe series 4 version approx 1200kgs, I dont think even the cabrio Turbo II was that heavy at 1600 more like 1400kgs, the FD is around 1230 to 1350 depending on trim and equipment

ok thanks blitz boy...any ideas why the fc t 2 is heavier then...as was going to look for a t2 as a base project...any one got one with no motor or g/box...

Prof

they are heavier because they are harder to break ;)

The suspension, floor pan, pedals - everything went on a diet for the FD.

The heaviest is the cab at 1420 KG\'s dry weight.  We do seem to get through fewer diffs and drive shafts than the FD boys.  Coupe version is the lightest - if you strip a lot of stuff out of it you can lighten it up by quite a bit - but you\'ll be 100-200 Kg\'s heavier than an FD that\'s had the same \'diet\'.

i thought the Cab was lighter? with it aluminium body pannels n that. or was that just the bonnet?

Coupe is lighter :D hence I got that lol :D cause the cab has no roof, mazda have added a lot of extra supports to make up for it, its why cabs don\'t rust as much as coupes, cause they have extra floor plates etc

pdtaylor18

But yes the cabs did get a super lightweight bonnet.  Unless you are doing anything performance wise dont worry about the weight too much, you can compensate for it in various ways !! Bigger turbo, mappable ECU etc.
If however weight is the main issue then plenty of ways to shred the weight, ,loads of CF products out there, lighter wheels etc will all help.

Including removing \'unecessary parts\' of the engine - air pump, emissions, vac rack stuff - that lot probably adds up to 50-100 Kg\'s

Whats all that? I know you can bin the aircon and i\'m going to do that, Was even thinking of gettin\' rid of the Power steering.

But you can bin the air pump and Vac rack? What do they do?

dthebuk

air pump takes air from te air box and pumps it into the exhasut.

So it actually takes away some of the air going into the engine. Plus it weighs a bit.

dunno what the vac rack even is.
