Hi, I\'ve noticied over the past couple of days that my FD is idleing rough when started cold, it seem to maintain a fairly constant 1500 rpm but the car shakes quite a bit? When warm it sits at 800 fine and idles very smoothly, any thoughts on what this could be?

I\'ve had a look back through the forum but can seem to find anyone with the same issue.

The car is standard bar a racing beat cat back system and is only 7k into a rull rebuild.

Hi Phil,

The FD has two stages of cold start and due to the weather sounds like it\'s putting a little bit too much fuel in but as it sorts it self once warm and I would say there\'s nothing to worry about,

One trick is after the car has run for a few seconds "blip" the throttle just once by a quick flick of around an inch and off and this will knock the engine off it\'s cold start procedure and shold then tick over much slower, works on Gen 2\'s as well,
All the best Clive

Thanks Clive,

I didn\'t think it was too much to worry about, once I\'d driven to the end of the road it was idling fine.

I\'m still getting used to the FD\'s ways and tend to worry a tad too much.

Glad I\'m not alone, I think paranoia comes standard with RX7 ownership.

Oh yes - the paranoia is awesome.. "What was that?" "Ssh, you hear that?" lol

As an aside, i\'ve noticed this as well the last few weeks - idle seems to be about 1400rpm on very cold mornings - Settles down to about 800 as soon as up to temp though. :D

My gen 2 Turbo II will barrel up to 2500 On a cold idle! ive even seen it go to 3000 On a freezing morning! It only stays there for about 15 - 30 seconds then it will go to about 1500 then after 5 mins of driving it will go to a normal sort of 850 idle.

It seems to sort of miss a beat or two though. I think it needs new plugs and leads probibly coil packs too! :(
