I read somewhere that putting a FD oil pressure regulator in an FC TII engine can raise the oil pressure and ensure a better flow of oil to the bearings/turbo etc. I have a 360 bearing hybrid turbo which is essentially a ported TII exhaust side with a To4E compressor.  My oil flow needs to be restricted to the turbo as it smokes a bit too much on excelleration and this is a well documented problem on 360 bearing turbos, i did put in a restrictor which I made from flat plate but although the hole is what most have used of about 0.6 its too small as the turbo sounds and smells way too hot once i have shut down. without risking a damaged turbo i have gone back to the standard oil feed.  Restricting the oil did help immensly with the blue oil smoke.

So two questions:

1. What is the best size restrictor for the turbo feed for the turbo or if one is not needed could there be a problem with the oil seals within the turbo.

2. Would my TII engine which is running on standard internals benefit from uprating to a FD oil pressure regulator, main mods are at moment the larger turbo, FMIC, 3.5" straight through exhaust and free flow intake, the engine was rebuilt at around 4K miles ago but I did buy this lump with a blown turbo and although I did find bits in the intercooler I could find no visible damage to the internals when it was inspected through the exhaust when the engine was out the car.

The car is still being worked on after a year being renovated so no MOT to do any sort of decent road test. Hopefully that will be next week once i have more confidence in the oil system.

Well might as well answer this myself, seems that the 360 bearing turbos are restricted from between 1.9mm- 2.2mm.  Mine was only drilled to 1.5mm so will drill out bigger.
Did a bit of reading that the FD regulator creates too high a pressure in the TII lump so may give that one a miss unless someone con tell me otherwise.
