FD Bushes???

Hi,

I want to change all the bushes on my FD as the car has done 125000 Miles and could do with a refresh. It needs wheel alignment but before I to this I want to refresh the car, and get it a little more track orientated. I have searched the forum but I am a still little unclear as to what I have to order. I know I need Pillow Ball bushes too and I know where I\'ll be getting these from, just need to know which ones. I suppose what I\'m asking for is a shopping list of exactly what I will need. A full kit would be best plus the pillow balls. How many pillow balls are required, I\'ve got a figure of 6 from a thread on here with a further 22 poly bushes.

Advice on what brands and where to purchase would be very helpful.

The pillow ball bushes come in a set from Malloy mazda through a group buy on rx7club. Unfortunately the $:£ is naff at the minute.

Cheers Shaun, I didn\'t see those threads when I first looked, a lot more helpful.

:lol: £900 to do the lot. To be honest thats not far off what I figured but I can imagine it will make a world of difference on a car with 125k on the clock.

I\'ll be getting the pillowballs from Tim at RX Motors. I did see Malloy suggested in a couple of threads though.

Tim is very competative on the pillow balls the last time I saw and the dollar isn\'t helping at all at the minute !

The job can be done on the drive as long as you have a good clue of what you are doing but even supplies and alignment afterwards will be about 400 - 500. Took me almost 2 months to sort it, partly due to waiting on re-worx and malloy. I had a complete spare set of suspension bits too so everything got painted red as well !

I\'ve done a few poly bushes before on my old mk3 Astra Turbo. Not a nice job.

20 bushes and 10 pillowballs. Does that sound about right?

If I do the job it will take me ages. I\'ll start of and do the first few then lose interest. I don\'t get enough spare time.:mad:

Ive been looking at replacement bushes etc recently.  I think my bushes have been changed to powerflex - but the pillow balls haven\'t been touched.  I found that RHDJapan did sell them at a reasonable rate.

I just bought the rear set for £258 delivered from RHDjapan, exchange rate is pants atm. I\'m doing it myself as i have a 10 ton press at home, i imagine its an impossible job without garage tools though.

Just one of them at the back is about 6 tonnes. The rest some sockets and some threaded bar does the trick. Plus a big bar on the spanner. Need quite a bit of bar though, it stretches after a couple of uses !

Completed that very job 2 months ago. Powerflex front and rear bush kit and a set of 6 pillowballs from RHDJapan. Pillowsballs were easy, as stated , threaded rod and large sockets were all that was required .
Bushes were more difficult but once I got a technique sorted they went ok. I used a deep hole cutter to cut through the rubber between the inner metal sleeve and the outer metal skin of the bush. Carefully hacksawed through the outer sleeve in two places and the sleeve slipped out. Urethane bushes going in is a no brainer, just lots of grease.

I can highly recommend the Powerflex kit from Re:Worx. They know which ones to change and which ones to leave standard. Transforms the car utterly.
 
Then get yourself to Wheels in Motion and see Tony who will set up the geometry.
 
Do those two and it will be a different car.

We are able to transform your suspension totally.
 
Either bring us your car, or send us the wishbones and Diff carrier, and we can replace all of the bushes, including the Steering rack and ARB\'s, and also the spherical bearings, dust caps.  The wishbones will be shot blasted so will look as good as new!
 
If you bring the car to us, we will even set the geometry up for you.

I have had this done by Re-Worx and can vouch for the transformation, the car you drive away is so different from the car you take in and they are fairly local to you. I also had new Teins fitted all around which again if your car is of a certain age/mileage will benefit from no end.

a rex i im interested in had all suspension and steering bush`s done at mazda. for the complete car they charged just under 1400 bucks including labour
