first off Hi i hope this is in the right place, this forums is a little confusing lol!

I have just sold my nissan 200sx s14 (which i LOVED) and got my self a fds3 rx7 type r (1992) had a rebuild not to long ago with recipts and compression test with printouts etc... it needs a bit of body work and tidying but its a project for me :D

anyway first problem, it idles fine, however i feel its set a little high? seems to be just about 1krpm when warm... is there a way to lower it or is this correct?

secondly when sat at a junction or lights, car out of gear it sits there and purs (or roars, the exhaust is SO loud! i was running pretty much straight through on my 200 and this is a cat back and its much louder lol) put your foot on the clutch and slip it in to first and sit there and the revs drop and hunt up and down... spoke to the guy i got it from and he seems to think it is a tps problem? take it out of gear goes back to being fine, or drive off and it drives perfect.

only other problems i have is the exhaust is FAR to loud and i think there is a slight leak from it in the downpipe area but havent had a look yet... and i need a pair of headlight covers as the ones that came with it are broken (mounts and one has a corner missing off of it!) so if anyone has a pair or knows where i can get a pair pretty quick in black if possible i would be hugely thankful!

apart from that the drivers interior door handle is screwed but hopefully have a new one coming, i need a new drivers side front wing and the boot hatch seems to be missing the plastic trim on the inside around the glass, but i got it cheap and knew it would need work :) OH! and the front wipers seem analy slow?

so any help or tips would be great and i would be really thankful and willing to learn... these rotarys seem like a huuuuge learning curve compared to the old 4 pot turbo i had before lol!

thanks in advance and if this is posted in the wrong place i really do appologise.

Regards

Hi, and welcome to the forum!!:WaveBye

Not sure why your car would hunt for revs when in any gear if you have you foot on the clutch (i.e. clutch disengaged from engine) as there should be no transmission load on the engine, unless there is a clutch cylinder related problem??

I also thought that RX7s had a cable throttle which opened the butterfly, not a TPS or flybywire system. Though i maybe wrong?!?

P.s get some pics up and post in the 3rd Gen section :cheers

are you running an Apexi FC? If so you can adjust idle through the commander. If its standard should be about 800 rpm

My car does this, probably the clutch pressure plate not engaging properly but mine is ok once warmed up

If you think its blowing get someone to cover the exhaust oiver and listen for any rasping, if none then you have a loud exhaust. All exhaust on FD\'s have different tones and different noise levels.

There are always cars being broken up on here to get parts from here

TPS is a throttle posision sensor mate that tells the ECU how much fuel to poor in :)

As for the wipers, it sounds like you are going to need to strip, clean, grease & rebuild the wiper boxes.... easy job to do, but a little fiddly!!

What you need to do is take off the black trim accross the bottom of the window, disconnect the ball sockets that connect the wiper boxes to the motor. Now unbolt the units from the car & take them out. at the bottom of the spline section (where the wiper arm sits) you will hace a very small C clip, not a sirclip!! push this off & then pull the shaft out of the box, clean up, grease & rebuild! all should be as good as new then ;)

thanks jono :) and thanks the 2 ash\'s lol, will give the wipers a go :)

ashrx no power fc yet its on the cards though... just stock ecu might try bleeding the clutch? its not like the clutch is getting dragged i dont think but will have a closer look i thought it might be that so no real biggy...

tell you what though im loving it, really do love driving the thing and tbh i was scared of the fuel bills but its no more than my 200 was :)

cheers guys,

AshRX

i would get a power fc on if your running a aftermarket cat back exhaust

any fuelling changes not compensated for can be a killer for these cars

eek didnt realize it was that bad from just running a rear section :( i will get one asap then!!

AshRX

might not be that bad, just dont take the cat off without one though as you may get boost spike and run lean

Jono FD3

yea... cat back & air filters is as far as you can go without a PFC!! The other thing aswell, don\'t run it on anything less than V-Power or you will be picking up bits of engine if you open the taps!! Std jap ECU\'s are set to run on 100 ron fuel and the best we can get in this country is the 99ron V-Power!! But once the PFC is fitted, you can get it mapped for 95 ron if you want to.... although I would go for a 97 super plus as you can get that at any fuel station, rather than get it mapped for V-Power, take her on a trip some where only to find you need to fill up & can\'t get any V-power!!

thanks for the tips guys, only run vpower anyway always used it on my 200... plus i feel all special with the vpower card lol!! my girlfriend hates it though as it normally envolves driving completely out of the way to get fuel and living in the cotswolds there isnt many shell garages around lol!

been taking it steady tbh driving like a granny most of the time and just enjoying it with a couple of blasts every now and then but i keep shifting at like 5k forgetting how far it revs lol!

seen a few posts on putting 2stroke oil in with the fuel... do people do this and if so how much??

also want to do an oil and filter change what is the recomended oil? i see alot of posts regarding synth and semi and minerals... but cant seem to find a definate answer??

gonna save up and around feb time get a power fc and get it mapped :)

leon

Hey mate and welcome to the forum :wiggle

The two stroke oil in the fuel tank is for when people have remove or break the MOP (metering oil pump) and its lines.

The mop feeds oil directly into the rotorhousings to lubricate the rotors. two stroke oil can lower the octane rating though so its not always a good thing, but does provide better lubrication (sp?).
I woof in your general direction.

Hi and welcome! :Thumbs-up

You\'ll find this a friendly and helpful club on almost every topic. The synthetic/mineral oil debate being one exception, lol. Think you\'ll get as many answers to that one as there are rotary owners! :Laugh Probably more important to change it very regularly than what actual type it is, tbh. And keep a eye on the level, the rotary\'s designed to burn a little all the time (hence the MOP).

I use BP Ultimate when I can\'t find a Shell garage, it\'s the same octane rating, just a bit more expensive. No ill effects yet!

Get that Power FC fitted, it transforms the car, even with only a few simple mods, and the piece of mind is priceless.

Get some pics up, too, dude!

Myself and a good few other 13b owners i know all use the basic Halfords 10/40 mineral oil and as long as your changing it every three thousand miles or so its up to the job. Also it only about £14 for 5 litres

If you have or are planning a race engine build or 400+ hp you may need a better performing oil but afaik the halfords stuff is fine for most of us
