Curious as to what I should use to clean the internals of the engine etc. Also the outside. of the block.

It will be in peices tomorrow. :)

thanks in advance chaps!

Use carb cleaner to get the carbon off or if its not that bad and just needs a general clean up then some petrol would do. Just make sure everything is clean and dust free :)

Carb cleaner and petrol? That all?

Man... I\'m gonna stink of petrol! So I should use some petrol on the outside etc to clean it all up also?

Any magical special cloth that works better?

To be honest mate i\'m not the best as never done it myself, just suggesting what they say on the DVDs.
I would of thought it would all work on the outside to. Normal engine cleaner would do the job as well i\'d of thought. Use a soft paint brush of something similar to help get rid of all the grimey bits

if its on the outside then i always use tfr and alloy wheel cleaner, but dont leave it on to long as its corrosive.

before to removed the rear side plate, make a seal case for seals e.g out of cardbroad, any hard paper and label it!!!so that\'s way you don\'t mixed it up.
you\'ll return the seal in its orginal place in later date.
get a measurement equipment like mircometer to check the seals.

got to go now bye!

hairyhoover

diesel or petrol! nice and cheap now as well!

Petrol destroys surgical gloves lol. It is the best degreasant though.

Petrol to degrease
Pressure water washer to clean the hard to reach parts.
Carb cleaner or gasket remover to decoke the rotors and water seal channels.

Having just done all of this myself (thread is in the members section of the strip down of my engine) i used Jizer for the outside and a nylon stiff bristle brush....

Once you get the rotors and everything out, i cleaned everything in a bath of paraffin and blew all the parts out with an airline after gettin the carbon off with gasket remover (which i got from ebay cos obv halfrauds dont sell anything useful!!)

After that i sprayed everything with carb cleaner as this is the nearest thing to pure solvent and evaporates and leaves no residue :D

After that i blew everything out again with the airline :D

So they are all now sitting wrapped in cling film in the dining room keeping lovely and warm and dry and waiting for some new parts lol

Good luck with it mate tis tiresome cleaning everything but well worth it.  Measure everything when it\'s clean cos no point when it\'s not :D:D

Just done a bit of shopping.

I still need a dial indicator though which I\'ll order up tonight.

Quick question though....

Once the rotors are clean etc... is it just a case of wrapping them in clingfilm?

I don\'t have an airline.. so I think a hairdryer will have to be the next best thing!

SmbFD3S

I didn\'t use the airline to dry it mate although it does help, but it blows all the bits out, for want of a better phrase.... as long as it\'s clean the solvent will dry naturally.

You don\'t have to wrap them in anything, but mine have been left like this for a while now, and just didn;t want them getting caked in anything again... I did wipe them over with a lint free rag soaked in 2 stroke tho tbh...

You need an airline ideally cos there are plenty of little holes to blow out and it just makes it soo much easier aswell as being sure you have clear oilways etc, dont you know anyone with one?

I\'ve just clearanced the rotors and stationary gear bearings so i can now order these up, so if you want to do that aswell you\'ll need some more bits (not cheap).

Oh and dial indicator try here mate:- http://www.tooled-up.com/

I\'m hoping the majority of the parts are ok tbh as it was only built 3K miles ago.

I don\'t have an airline or know anyone with one.. Mmm...

You can get cans of compressed air can you not? Might just do that.
