If they\'re going to be arsey about that they\'re going to be arsey about a sticker

The whole import/no provision\' thing is utterly true - there\'s a bit on the DVLA website about it - BUT it\'s for imported cars only, not UK cars with different bumpers.

The issue is with the spacing - I\'ve got two line ones and never had any issue whatsoever - I\'ll see what i can dig up about the spacing - but it\'s all on the DVLA website.

Its all on the dvla website, imported cars can have lettering around 10mm smaller than the uk equivelent.

Quote from: DVLACertain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if:
The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval
AND
l The vehicle\'s construction/design cannot accomodate standard size number plates
Specifications for smaller sized plates (for certain imported vehicles)

whatever the European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval is :flamed

The copper measured mine against \'group 1\' on page 2 of http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/displayofnumberplates.pdf

If my car does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval then he should have measured me against the table at the top of page 3 (smaller measurements allowed, which I wouldn\'t have passed either:reallymad)

Sticky plates..... lol don\'t get me started.... if he throws that in to the ring ask him if he goes around pulling every ferrari, Zonda...... actualy, most of the italian super cars. if he isn\'t then there are hundreds more braking his precious law!!

Oh & if you get stoped in the future & they say "No, there hasn\'t been any law about smaller size plates & didgets being allowed" just show him this & watch them retreat back to their car with their tail between their legs:

you mean the bit on page 3 that has a table of "Specifications for smaller sized plates (for certain imported vehicles)"

what are the certain imported vehicles then...?
In any case, my reg would have failed those measurments too...

One of the documents above mentions the sticky plates rule... it wasn\'t the copper.

Went to see the DVLA today in Brighton to ask what I could do about the size of the plates and stuff, and to find out once and for all what the rules are.

They said an imported RX7 DOES fall into the category Display of Vehicle Registration Marks on Imported Vehicles (which have a
restricted space for a standard sized number plate)
mentioned at the top of page 3 of
http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/displayofnumberplates.pdf... which means you only have to measure up against the table on page 3, which have much smaller minimum dimensions of lettering and spacing etc

The reason being an imported RX7 does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval, because it was produced before the ECWVA regulations were brought in, and because, well, it wasn\'t built i Europe :). And, if you have a Jap bumper (i.e it can\'t accomodate a UK plate), you only need to abide by the measurements listed in the table at the top of page 3 under Display of Vehicle Registration Marks on Imported Vehicles (which have a
restricted space for a standard sized number plate)

and that is gospel from the DVLA.

the fact that my plate still doesn\'t meet those regs, is another matter :Laugh

not siding on the police, but you knew its illegal?, like me i have my number plate in the front windscreen which is illegal i know that,i got stopped a couple of times when i first done it 2-3 years ago but just said bumper had just been resprayed and got told to sort it or im on the way to halfrauds to get number plate fixings if i was in that area, they dont bother me now-touch wood, but i know if i get stopped  they will bring me up on it-its their job lol

On the other hand as you have said buy a number plate with less characters that will fit on your plate.

well, I never measured it, but I new it wasn\'t up to the normal UK sized plates, and thoguht I could get by on the imported sized plates...

Don\'t get me wrong, I\'m not arguing the VDN... just curious what the proper regs are for my car..:Thumbs-up

I now have to go an MOT station to get the VDN stamped... funny that it went through 3 MOTs with nothing being said... :2Rolleyes
