Guys

Anyone got any good suggestions on where to go shopping for individual light units (ie single main / high beam spots - not light clusters).

I want to get an idea of what\'s available around 2" or smaller, that can be used for main beam lights (using multiple beams per side).  HID capable or Halogen would be nice, just to make sure they put out enough light, but I have no idea whether that sort of output is viable from a small spot...

Likewise, I\'ll be wanting 3" to 3.5" spots to use for High Beam.

I\'ve tried searching around ebay, but only seem to be able to find angel-eye kits, or complete light clusters.  Whilst I could buy light clusters and strip them, that would get expensive very quick...

So, if anyone knows of decent shops that might sell this sort of thing, drop a link here please :D

Nope!

But...

I\'ve got a set of eBaytastic bug-eyed chav lights complete with angel eyes if they\'re any use to you, ol\' Chimpy? The driver\'s side housing and shell is a bit mangled from where it ate some armco quite hard, but they all work and that wouldn\'t matter if you just want to strip out the light units (of which there are four, obviously). Just be aware they probably wouldn\'t pass an MOT unless you get a bit creative or have a tame tester. I wouldn\'t want much of your Earth pounds for \'em, given the situation....

can get you pics and that if you care?

Er...dunno. I guess so, as far as I can remember, the bulbs are just standard H4 halogen jobbies. I\'ve never installed HID, so dunno how much larger the "bulb" part is than standard, but I guess its designed to fit the original bulb holder? Then you\'d just need to hide the ballast unit somewhere?

logicalChimp

Hmm - might be tempted, Nik

Any idea what size the light units are?  and are they all the same size? :)

If they\'re H4, then a standard H4 HID set should fit.  Before I worry \'bout that tho, I still need to sort out the mini-spots to use for main beam... :D

Ignore me, I\'m a moron! The bulbs are H7, single filament 12v (obviously!) 55w. The lights are 3 1/2 inch diameter each. Pics;

The units as they look when fitted. A few cracks and bits missing from the base units, but they\'re still sound when bolted down (ie they\'re not gonna flip off and vanish at speed lol) and the only bit of damage that shows when fitted is the little bit of C/F on the leading edge of the drivers side light unit

Wiring was soldered in to the car wiring, so you\'d need to solder or use crimp/scotchblock connectors to finish it off cos it\'s just been cut off! Lights were wired one main, one for high beam, but I guess with a decent relay you could get them to be both at the same time.

The damage; the metal brackety bit replaces the shattered part of the base mounting unit, the part that bolts in under the front bumper to the same bolt the bumper hangd off behind the sidelight area.

Bit of (genuine! :Giggle) carbon fibre glued in to fill the gap where part of the fascia split off. Would be very easy to run filler in and re-paint, but I kinda liked it poking through like a broken tooth, to remind me not to drive like a total d1ck in the wet lol!

Thats as much info as I can give, really. They all work and the damage to the units wouldn\'t be a a problem if you only want the lights out of them anyway. Or would be easy enough to repair cosmetically anyway. As I said, I\'d only ask a few quid plus postage, they generally go for around a hundred on fleabay, so it\'d be a cheap way of experimenting....:yes

Wot d\'ya reckon? Can\'t be a lot, can it, given their hard life! Twenty quid plus postage? But I guess in the interests of fair play the Chimpster gets first refusal since it\'s his thread!

logicalChimp

For 20 quid i\'ll take them - will allow me to start with the fun job of fabbing a way to mount them in the popups :D

I *think* you can get H7 HIDs, but to be honest, i\'ll be wiring all 4 up just for High Beam - which means pattern spread shouldn\'t be an issue, and together they should put out enough light, HID or not :)

How close are you to Super7, Nik?  cos i\'m popping down there on Sat to collect the car *fingers crossed* :)

Nik da Greek

Aha! You\'ve got Jason into work on a Saturday? You\'re obviously persuasive, then! I\'m only around 8 miles or so from Goldings Barn, and I think I can now actually drive it in my sleep, the car\'s been there so often. I\'ve gotta be at work Saturday from around eleven, though, so I dunno if that\'d be any use to you? I can always drop them up to Super 7 tomorrow (28th) for you to pick up when you get there, if that\'s easier? I need to see J about getting my Powerplant Frame swapped over anyway, and I\'m sure he\'ll be happy to hold onto them for you

logicalChimp

If you could drop them off to Jason, that would be great ;)

Unfortunately, I haven\'t gotten him to work the Sat - the car\'s there atm, i\'m just collecting *fingers crossed*

If you PM me your paypal details, I\'ll get payment sent over tomorrow

cheers

logicalChimp

Right - for future reference (by myself or others):

Spoke to Jason about the lights (given he was handy when collecting Niks - cheers Nik! ;)) - recommended a place called \'Cliffords of Brighton\'

Their website looks OK, but no product listings, so will need to order a catalogue - if I remember, I will post again here once i get it (about product ranges / choice / prices / etc)
