Water Questions

Water !!, It doesnt go off or or anything its wet and maintains its ability to get hot and cool down. As long as my car stays cool and the water in the radiator is clean and the antifreeze level is good, WHY the need to change the water so regular??.
 
I constantly read about pepole changing their water like every 6 months etc. Is this really necessary??
 
I only changed water in my vtec dc2 integra like once every 10-15k miles and its was always fine and they are really hot running engines as are usually bouncing around the 9k rpm mark.
 
Dont get me wrong iam not in the market of neglecting my pride and joy as i drop the oil religously every 2k regardless its just that there is more chance of causing problems with air in the cooling system if its getting changed too regular imo.
 
When does anyone else change their water?? ive done 7k in mine since the rebuild and am toying with doing it now or just doing it at 10k.

I think it to due to errosion bud, the water gets contaminated and will not work as effectively. Lets get ya water changed over fella, wont take long.

As long as you use de-ionised water and antifreeze designed for engines constructed of aluminium and cast iron then you should only need to change it every 12-18 months at the most.
 
Obvioulsy if you\'ve just bought a car change it straight away unless you know the owner before used de-ionised water and decent antifreeze. You only get corrosion where there are light metal ions in the water setting up a mini electrolysis plant in your engine (normal tap water or boiled water).
 
For example Toyota do a 4-life antifreeze designed to be used with the same water for 4 years without change! But the de-ionised water is the main thing to worry about.

I think the antifreeze turns acidic over time and then cause\'s corrosion to the water ways,better to stick with the program and change regularly.
