Hi im new to the forum and wondering if this is the right place to post..

I have a 1989 rx-7 which looks absolutly stunning, but when i boutght it the car was cutting out when i came up to junctions and let my foot off the gas, if i revved it the engine would stay running, when i was driving it would sometimes just cut out and restart about 5 times in as many seconds, then run fine unless i took my foot of the accelerator.

This was very intermittent but recently it was doing it more and more, i took it to the local garage and they couldnt be bothered to have a look at it but they told me the plugs were wet when i was trying to start it, i took the plugs out heated the fuel off them with a lighter and the car went again, i managed to get it home where it has been in the garage ever since,i would really love to get this car running again.. any suggestions ? tnx

if the plugs were wet, you have a flooding problem, thing is if it keeps doing it then that is odd, normally a flooded car will not start, but once the flooding is sorted out it will be fine. Sounds to me like the car is struggling to idle. What is the spec of the car? Any mods? What model is it? etc need more info before we can give a diagnosis.

Things to check:
Are the plugs old and tired?
Are the HT leads old and tired?
Is the idle control ok?
are the injectors ok?

but it may be down to mods on the car...

I had a s*itty old renault Clio that used to do just that. I was told it might be a lambda sensor? Could be an avenue to explore if all the things Sadgoth mentioned check out fine.
