Hi all,

Just thought I\'d do a quick write up on my experience with simplifiing the sequential turbo system, TBH is not doing anything other than removing the emissions and ACV and such like, however that does all make a big difference to the amount of clutter under there... That said, there\'s still a lot of stuff!

However, I do not want to take credit for this, we see further by standing on the shoulders of giants!

First off the vacuum diagrams that are essential to all this (or at least the ones I used) are here: http://www.turborx7.com/rx7vacuum.htm

Print off both A3 and in colour if you can, then you can compare both side by side, you going to need to! However I can testify they\'re both 100% accurate as I had a 2 week gap between pulling everything out and putting it back together, so couldn\'t remember bugger all when I came back to it.

I\'ve grabbed a few pictures and labelled them up, first the underside UIM:

(I\'ve left these as links, as they\'re full res and about 1MB a peice, but it means you can zoom in and pan around)

In the rats nest I pulled out everything I could! All the hard pipes above it and all the solinoids no longer needed, bit radical maybe, but I prefered just having only what\'s needed. Because of this (can\'t confirm otherwise) I needed 5 vacuum T-Peices (off eBay) and got the gates rubber hose from Clive @ MRP along with the blanking plates.

I\'m 99% sure I\'ve labelled everything up correctly but let me know if not and I can correct it :D

I know it\'s not a step by step guide, but if you\'re undertaking this you should be pretty confident with the ol\' spanners (I\'m not very experienced with RX7\'s, but have worked on plenty of cars in the past), so hopfully this will just help if you get stuck!

Any comments or feedback would be apprecaited :D

Cheers,

Looks good bud, been thinking of doing this for ages now, looks fairly straight forward.
Great write up fella, thanks!
P.S where did you get the caps to blank of any unused nipples?
:Laugh LOL

No problems, as I was just reminded on FDUK, on the vac diagrams there\'s a yellow / orange line that goes from the turbo\'s to nowhere, and another from the top of the 4 nipples on the UIM with a check valve to the pressure chamber.

On Jap Spec cars there\'s only 3 nipples on the LIM in the position, so you just take the yellow / orange line from the turbo are infront of the LIM and to the pressure chamber.

The Blanking caps I managed to get from eBay with a link from Blitzboy IIRC... They were down as "MOPAR FORD CHEVY HOLLEY CARB VACUUM CAP KIT", from this seller: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Dustys-Speed-Shop

Also I think it was NikP who had the genius idea of just joining them together with a length of hose which is another good, somewhat cunning, option.

HTH,

I think as someone pointed out over on rx7club, this is only advisable if you understand how the system works as you\'re going to to have to diagnose any problems yourself.

RemarkLima

Yeah you\'re right there! There\'s quite a bit of info on RX7Club, lots of threads on it :D

I only went down this route as I wanted to remove the AirPump, then found it joined to some metal pipes, followed them back and found they attached to the LIM, and it kinda snowballed from there basically removing everything to do with it all... I still think I may have got carried away a little but (to my surprise) everything works, both turbo\'s, lots of boostage, all good fun :D

And now I can really feel how roasting the turbo\'s really get!!!

Cheers dude, just to say, I took the car for a blat last night and it\'s all working absolutely lovely! I\'ve sorted the air leak so no high idle... I think I\'ll now need to get the apexi to relearn the idle settings but again that\'s no big drama\'s.

Also fitted a wee little battery which seems to be holding up OK, I just think I now need a way to permanantly fit a solar trickle charger ;)

Now the next thing on the list is to sort the AC once and for all, and the bushings which are starting to knock!

Also, interesting little fact, the FD will run with no battery connected, just off the alternator juice :D

Take care doing this. The voltage regulator will struggle and the voltage may spike, killing your ecu/sterio/dash before moving on to your wallet. This will transmit the destructive power to your bank account from where it will spread to the missus before returning to you, somehow amplified further.

Good info to know, it was more a surprise TBH as I\'ve had a DNF in a race as the battery shorted and exploded itself and I lost everything... Only had a couple of laps to go as well!

So old MR2\'s do not run unless the battery is connected up.
