tinker 27, from what I can gather you\'re an expert on this conversion as money is a bit tighter than I thought (still got to find the money to do my bathroom) I may have to take the car off the road for quite a while. Do you think the LS1 is a good enough engine if I have to go for a \'pullout\' and what gearbox is best suited. I\'ve given up the idea of buying a new crated LS3 as the overall cost doesn\'t really justify doing it so any guideance you can provide will be most helpfull.

A post 2002 LS1 from an F body is best with the t56 it comes with if you’re on a budget. Some changes were made in 2004 with the GTO LS1 with a stronger gearbox etc but you would then need to swap the sump and associated parts along with the engine mounts to fit in with the subframe. When I got mine, the supplier in the US did all this for me at no extra charge. Another plus with the latter LS1\'s is that they are likely to be available with lower mileages.
In my opinion the LS1 is a good choice as they are easily and relatively cheaply tuneable as and when you want more power. And the wiring aspect is well documented and easy to do.

Hi RX7

Spartacus, I remember you saying that the people you bought the engine from sent you a video etc of it running would it be worth me contacting them at some stage. It sounds like the later engine is the best choice from what you say. As far as the whole project goes from a time point of view I do need to sort out a few domestic things before engines so if the rotary cannot be brought back to life I will have to store it away and do the project at a later date.

The people I used were cleveland pick a part and their email address is cleveland_pick_a_part@yahoo.com. From when I researched mine they came out as one of the most respected suppliers.

But you never know, with any luck you may not need to use them if yours isn’t too bad, fingers crossed eh.
