Coolant type

is it ok to mix coolant? ive currently gont a louminous yellow colour coolant and it needs topping up, the only coolant i can get hold of is a redish coloured one, just wondering is it ok to mix the 2 or would it be better just to replace the coolant entirely :confused:

Always good to do a complete coolant flush every now and again anyway.

To be honest you can just add water when your topping it up (de-ionized is recommended) depending on what your anti-freeze/water ratio is.

I.e. if you run a 50/50 mix then adding just water when you top isnt going to make much of a difference.

I would strongly advise against it as some don\'t mix well.   From what i have been told, red and orange are fine to mix, green, yellow and blue are ok to mix.  but not between the two eg. red and green is a no no.

I would top up with water now for a month or so but I\'d MAKE SURE that I had a complete change of Antifreeze before MID OCTOBER LATEST. I\'d also seek out some Bluecol which has done me proud for 40 years.

I\'ve always been told that red and green/blue are different types - the green/blue tends to be ethylene Glycol based, and the red is made of troll magic or something. No idea how true it is, but as said above, it\'s a good opportunity to flush the system and refill with whatever takes your fancy

Yep, whatever colour, you need to make sure it\'s ethylene glycol based, not methanol based as that degrades quite quickly.
