i have been looking for a while because i obviously do not want to rush into anythng. by looking i have noticed that downpipes, boost controllers and induction kits are a good place to start, with that does any one have any suggestions on which ones of these to get first and where from
thanks a lot adam charlton

priority is a mapable ecu ie: apexi before you start (unless got one),depending how far you want to go uprated fuel pump/injectors then intake/decat/boost controller plus a remap

i am looking to take it far but in a long time, im just looking to make a start, thanks alot for your help, any suggestions on make and model and price on the ecu\'s?

nikp

Apexi Power FC is a common one that people go for. About £450-550 ish price wise.

Apexi as NIK says - most,if not all, tuners can map them,if you go HKS reduces mappers that have the software for it.You need one for your year of car changed around 95/96 to 16 bit from 8 bit, keep an eye out in parts for sale a few come up

i have also been told that it is best to add mods like the down pip and induction kit and then get a brand new ecu and get that mapped to your mods?

Depends how much you want to do now. You can stick a cat back and intake on now no probs. I\'d make sure it\'s had a good service inc. gear and diff oil and do some of the reliability mods - new vac lines, alloy ast etc. Then look at the getting the power fc, decat and downpipe and maybe uprate the intercooler and look at getting a boost controller to up the boost whilst getting the pfc mapped. That\'s roughly how i\'ve approached it. Then you\'re into fueling, clutch, porting, turbos, cooling etc etc....

As others have said, get the ECU first, then do the other mods such as exhaust and induction.
With stock fueling you can get around 80 more HP with an Apexi ecu and decent map.
That should be reliable too.
