Driving very sensibly last night (actually was).

Both the oil and coolant and battery light came on on the dash, had a heart attack and pulled over at petrol station round corner and topped the oil up with 1L (had topped the coolant back to the top day before)

All my temperatures were fine (74C), infact everything seemed and sounded and smelled fine and then i was worried id put 1L of excessive oil in for no reason but the light wouldent turn off, especially since only had an oil chance 7 weeks ago.

Then i noticed as i put my foot down a bit, the oil, coolant and battery light faded to off, and when i took my foot off the accelarator they came back on.

ehhhh????   Anyone know what that is?

Cheers

Jonny

I know on the Gen 2,  its a sign of the alt failing ?  or your belt could be slipping,

When the battery vaultage is low it brings on both them lights. when you increase the revs it make the alternator charge harder hence the lights going off, get yourself a battery tester (try halfords, they normally will test ya battery for free), put it on check the charge in the battery, anything below 12v battery\'s bolloxed. if the volts change as you rev up the engine then its a failing alternator. if its that ring Steve on 07970776634 @ www.lindopmotorsport.com he\'ll sort you a new one, got some on the shelf.

cheers

jonny all your ice is probably starting to take its toll on the battery..

but dont run too much oil best check it when its cold last thing you want is filling it up too much and causing damage...

am on my hols now otherwise i could have had a look at weekend..

check the oil and coolant from cold and top up as neccessery if needed and if you have overfilled make sure you drain it out also dont mix your oil with the wrong grade or make of oil...

good luck:)

Cheers Jurgen, ha, well i only have one amp but see what you mean, i gave it a good run last night and seems to have sorted itself out.

What a daft idea out of all the lights, to have those two lights come on when you battery is low, heart attack!!

I cant find the dipstick anywhere! Anyone tell me where it is?

I\'ll nip over when your off your hols to double check, ah and nice one on Chris\'s baby, so i heard!

Nik da Greek

Dipstick is down in the depths on the passenger side of the block, near where the plugs and that are. Just below the little dent in the intake pipe from the intercooler

Bobbit

Pop over this weekend if you want a hand bud. You still got my number?
:Laugh LOL

Hello ive been having the same problem with mine i sometimes get the oil and coolant and batt light flash on and off, I thought it could be the alternator but i guess it could also be the battery.

SiH

It\'ll be electrical, so could be either really.
Most kwik fit type places offer free battery tests,s o worth taking advantage of that. As for the Alt - there\'s probably a method to check it in the manual, but my copy\'s on another pc :(

cyman

if you want to check to see if your alt is charging test your battery with the engine off using a volt tester across the terminals it should be around 12volts when the engine is runnin the same test should read 14 volts. whilst doing the test with the engine running turn on the lights etc and it should normally be within a volt of 14volts if it drops much lower than that its on its way out. also rev the engine and see if the voltage stays stable.

I just had my battery checked at halfords and he said the battery and alternator was fine could be the belt slipping? Il put a paint mark on it and see if its moving when the cars running.

eh? that won\'t work dude - it won\'t always return to the same point, it\'s not like a cambelt.
Easiest way to cehck for slipping is for the noise!

Best check the tension, and condition of the belt.
