Andrew Embling, a member of the Brighton & Hove Motor Club had his very tidy FD track car at the Brighton Speed Trials today.
He was in the handicap section as he is still working up to his full race licence.
He did the 1/4 mile in 13.03sec /  111 mph.
The Brighton Speed trial is classed as a Sprint by the MSA.
In effect, it is a "one at a time" drag race agains the clock along Madeira Drive in Brighton. However, unlike Santa Pod there is no special sticky surface, and Andrew was running Toyo 888s.
The event has a great atmosphere and a wide range of cars attending and public access to the paddock. Ever seen a Gumpert Apollo !!!
For cheapskates, you don\'t even need to pay as the public road  alongside Madeira Drive has excellent viewing.
For next years dates keep an eye on the Brighton & Hove Motor Club website.

Bit annoyed i didn\'t get in the 12s, as i did a 13.07 last year and the clutch let go. As i was in the \'handicap\' section i only got one run so no chance to improve on the first run :(

What with the other sprints i am competing in this year i\'ll be upgrading my MSA licence this year so will be in the proper classes next year, then i get two runs.

For those thinking 13 isn\'t all that quick; try it! Its not the \'pod.....the road surface (on what is a public road for 364 days a year) is....questionable as a drag strip!

cheers

That explains why I never saw you run in the afternoon, then! Was waiting around hoping to get photos, cos I missed your morning run, but it never happened. Took some static shots, though. Beautiful car, I just could not believe how shiny and immaculate it is! There were some fantastic cars there on the day, but in no way was your Rex getting less attention than any other car there! :Thumbs-up

I\'ve got a few other photos of some cool stuff from the day, but they all seem to involve pistons and I dont wanna pollute your thread by posting them up, unless by popular demand?

Papercup

Someone came and said hello on the day...a guy with a couple of kids in tow...i was waiting to run and was a bit busy and i didnt get a name...was it anyone off here?

Right, converted a few (alright, alot) of photos for anyone who\'s interested.

WARNING Following pictures contain piston-engine vehicles. Please don\'t view if you\'re easily upset by such stuff :Giggle

Shame if you miss out, though, there was some fantastic machinery running

Utterly immaculate 240z, the guy had owned it 30-odd years and restored it from the bare shell;

Lovely Mark I Cortina on Minilites and Hoosiers, gotta love it

40-grands worth of MotoGP-bike-on-the-road limited editionDucati Desmoseidici;

Some random Fezzas f40 and 50, I believe one of which belonged to Nick Masion from Pink Floyd. The bonnet vent that launced a thousand Saxos:Giggle;

Possibly the vehicle that was farthest ahead of its time ever, a quartet of BEAUTIFUL Vincents, make me moist just thinking about it!

The ever so-slightly brash GTArt Skyline  GTR33 which was running very close to nines on public roads!

Some Ford GT40s, never get tired of admiring these things, just incredible pieces of work. Barn door engineering built to thrash Ferrari at their own game. Some replicas, but what the hell!

A mad SD1 complete with Mad-Max styleee blower;

Not a bad set of machinery queuing for the pits, R33, Z06 \'vette and a mess of Vipers

I still love this MG Sv thing, such a shame it never made it into proper production;

Proof, were it ever needed that Bentleys should be owned by well-heeled toffs who want to go stupidly fast in comfort despite the ludicrous price and size of their cars!

A few more brash American things, but with that certain je ne se quoi, it must be said! (but I dunno what it is:rollin)

New supercars were there too, the new Ford Gt and Gumpert Apollo with its flaps up;

We all love a good burnout, proper drag turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa and the GTArt Skybus again

Couple of good juxtapositions. Teeny little MGBGT surrounded by vast Mustang GTs, and another  of Papercup\'s Rex keeping Jap honour alive (and not disgracing itself at all!) surrounded by Stngrays and Dinos and the like!

wow, great pictures...
can\'t beleive I missed it again this year.... last year I only managed to get a spot on the road above madeira drive, but couldn\'t get near the start line... had to stand somewhere near half way down, and you kinda lose the effect down there... :)

Cheers, John! Yeah, the start line is obviously the most popular place to be, and if you\'re not there at like 4 in the morning to stake your claim, you\'re never gonna get near it. I managed to get set up on a set of stairs to the top road, and made use of the zoom function on the camera a lot. All the burnout and staging photos were taken from there:

This was what the view was like without the zoom! Bit of a precarious perch, and ran the risk of getting piles sitting on those concrete steps so long, but well worth it, top day out. Where else can you get to such a motorsport event where you can literally wander around and stick your nose rght into the competing cars in the pits, all for a tenner! That\'s a fifth the price of Goodwood!:eek:

Paul-Tll

Great day \'as usual\' said quick hello Andrew, then enjoyed cars and sunshine all daylong.Bring on next year.Need a few more rotor powered cars though.
The \'track\' if you call it that was just road and not the best, recon you could lose 3/4 sec on there :Giggle but drive home with your dif intact?
