Plugging coolant paths? Problems?

Hey all,

What started out as a simple "let\'s remove the airpump as I\'ve now got a decat" has not turned into a mental full on mission ;)

Being a bit of a geek at heart, I do like to try and understand the workings of everything, so have pulled off the UIM, started stripping out the rats next, pulled off the ACV and Split Air pipe, so started to use the simplified turbo setup... Dear god what have I got myself in for???

Anyway, also I\'ve removed the throttle body coolant path some time ago, but now I\'ve noticed that there\'s a redundant coolant path it seems.

So in the piccy below, can I bin all the stuff in green and just plug the 2 pipes (1 on the block and the other on top of the water pump)?

And what\'s the best way to plug them? Is there a better way then just sticking a bolt in a cut hose?

Cheers,
Mark

Cheers dude, already been running with that but that keeps the coolant flow path as aove, just bypassing the throttle body.

But if you were to remove all the pipes and plug them, it wouldn\'t be bad?

Dont think so, there would not be a build up due to the flow of the coolant so i cannot see any probs with it. You\'ve removed the coolant flow to the TB and we dont really need it as it never gets that cold. And I know of some caps that you can use a jubilee clip with, but i\'ve never actually found anywhere that sell them.

Can\'t answer your question about the coolant paths, but I have used a set of pipe bungs wot I bought from Demon Tweeks. Like these;

I got the alloy bungs that go into the end of a hose and then are secured by a jubbly clip round the outside to blank off the spurious unions on my Apexi induction kit (where the BOV used to vent but doesn\'t cos I\'ve got an aftermarket dump valve). Seem quite secure, they have a series of ridges like a thread around them so they grip into the wall of the hose even without a jubilee clip. Cheap, too. HTH

Thanks both, sounds like a plan and I\'ll have a load of spare coolant hose to hack up to make end plugs for so that\'s all good :D

I wouldn\'t have thought that coolant would be vital but you never know with these things ;)

How do you find the cold ilde without the coolant line? Or have you modded it appropriately (As the throttle body has the wax rod on which helps keeps the revs up when it\'s cold)

RemarkLima

Basically it\'s as though the was rod is fully engaged, so you take out the adjuster screw, remove the spring and put it all the way back in, this holds the throttle so it\'s not revving it\'s nuts off all the time.

It does make it a bit lumpy and need the occassionaly jab of the throttle when cold, but they warm up pretty quickly so it\'s not a huge drama I\'ve found... In fact I was using it in the snow in the winter like this without any massive problems. And as long as you\'re moving you\'ll be fine.

Of course YMMV ;)

It\'s e-speak for Your Milage May Vary... And in it works for me, but you may get different results.

In this case it could be very true ;)

Ahh, one of those things like FTW (took me ages to find out what the hell that meant, lol)

Yeah, FTW got me too... Then I found out what it stood for but still couldn\'t "get it" in context ;)
