hi guys
i am going round in circles looking for a decent wideband. i am not going to tune on it (as i know the limits of my ability, and they are low!!!) but will be running WI and want to get mapped for water- as such i want a wideband as a warning system that something has gone wrong.

i already have stack gauges and so for a uniform look was going to go with http://www.stackltd.com/instruments.html]theirs[/URL]

but it seems pretty expensive for the features included. I know innovate do a few, but i would think that a digital gauge would be pretty important for this for accuracy (as in a slight change could be the end of the engine, but it would be difficult to see the change with an analogue dial) the DB series fits the bill, and is cheaper than the stack but again doesn\'t have many other features.

apart from that i dunno what else? any ideas? priority is
accurate/ has features i need
looks good
price

any advice would be appreciated!

A lot of the better ones have both digital and analog outputs - coming out of a small control box that the sensor also plugs into.

I used the innovate one, as I need one analog output for the eManage, but I used the other analog to drive a cheap 20 LED a/f meter - works surpisingly well.  You can now get the same type of 20 LED meter with a digital display as well, so you could get good accuracy with that.  Innovate do a rather sexy gauge - XD16 - that displays on LEDS and a digital display and is driven by the digital output from the control box.

There are a few other vendors:

AEM/UEGO
PLX

Plenty of choices :)

sorry, i should have made myself clear, i meant analogue and digital gauges- normally i go for analogue gauges (i.e. traditional needle pointer) as it is easy to see changes from a glance rather than read a number. however in this case i am wondering if the margin for error is such that a digital number is better as the difference between ok, and \'oh dear\' is so small that glancing at a normal needle wont show it?

Like Marco I\'ve been thinking about purchasing a wideband just so I can keep an eye on things. Can I ask though what people do to keep theirs calibrated ? Doesn’t the high heat of the Rotary mean the gauges never give true readings ? Is there something that needs doing to ensure the reading is accurate ?

Sorry for the slight thread hijack Marco but I thought it might be relevant.

calibrating the innovate is a one button press job if using the xd-16 its built into the gauge. As Prof said this gauge is the dogs danglies you can program the led colours to change where and when you want for a visual warning besides the digital centre section. The plx devices A/F set up has no calibrate facility so its a chuck the sensor away job every year or so to be safe. AEM do some nice kit but there aftersales sucks if you have any problems. If going innovate the cheapest place i\'ve found in the UK is VW speed shop in manchester. Paul in the old set up the sensor was within 6 inch of the turbo without issue but if you get overheat problems they sell a heat sink to get around this.

Nice one Kev, I\'ll start saving my pennies !

I use the Zeitronix zt-2 with good results. It also has the capability of logging data from the widenband plus EGT, RPM, throttle position and boost to your laptop. They do a few packages with various guage and display options.

memski do you have anymore info about the Neko unit, google isnt bringing anything up.

the Zeitronix unit looks a good bit of kit, how long have you had it for and had any snags with it?

memski

It\'s supposed to be a very good unit that the japanese tuners all use. Have a look on rhdjapan.com

I\'ve had the Zeitronix for about 2 years with no trouble at all.

I\'ve got the UEGO still to be installed. LED outer edge and digital reading in a 52mm gauge.
Worked out about £165 with tax and duty paid from USA !

Need to get my finger out and get it installed and get the bung welded in the mid pipe.

Innovative is very good, I go through a lot of sensors though, but for personal use it will be fine, Bill Shruvington can give you a good service and price.

thanks for the advice guys, i think i am going to plump for the zeitronix package, mainly due to the boost and other functions. one last thing though, is there much point in reading egts as well?

Ross, i have a WI kit waiting to go on, will be in touch soon r.e. nozzle placement and triggers etc!
