Where have you mounted your water injection pump?

OK, first part of the job is done -UK-spec rear washer bottle installed, pipe to engine bay ditto. Now I have to work out where to put the pump...

I\'ve seen one or two installs, including one that looked like it was in the boot (didn\'t strike me as a good idea, I\'d rather have the pump near the injector), but I\'m still unsure where to stick it. Where have you guys who have it installed already put it?

ive put mine under the front bumper although i have a veilside front so probably have more room that under the stock bumper
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

12.3 second 1/4 mile, terminal speed of 122mph (1st ever drag run on a TO4R)

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

Hmm, that\'s a thought - did you have to remove the whole bumper to do that? I\'ve got a C-West so likewise, probably have more room than stock.

Does it get in the way of the radiator/intercooler ducting at all? And do you mean actually "inside" the bumper - can\'t see how you wouldn\'t screw through to the exterior though?

My pump is in the boot in the compartment on the left (where the tool kit is-obviously not anymore) !!

Havent seen any reasons why putting it there is bad, it\'s closer to the water tank than in the enginebay and obviously not affected by the heat generated there. The pump is perfectly fine to pump the water the length of the car to the twin injectors.

Just my opinion though, been using it for over a year with no issues. I followed Scott (sdminus) advice when fitting it so if it was good enough for him it was good enough for me.

yes removed the bumper and welded a couple of small plates onto the front of the chassis. at least there its out of the way of everything.

Hmm, that\'s interesting - I was going on what the Cooling Mist instructions said (and something I read on the Aquamist site too), but neither seem to be vehemently against it, they just say "put it in the engine bay". I suppose once the system\'s under pressure it doesn\'t really matter where the pump is, water will come out at the same rate.

I am tempted by that option, it makes life easier and everything fairly easy to get at. I presume you wired it up from the rear light or rear washer loom? Any tips on which wire is which if I do go down that route!? :3Confused

It depends on which WI system you use. The Aquamist HFS systems specify that the pump should be in the boot (or close to the tank, wherever that might be). The failsafes, HSV and flow sensor take care of the inherent disadvantages of such a long run between pump and nozzle.

I think, from memory, that the coolingmist setups need a shorter run between pump and nozzle but it\'s a long time since I looked at their sytems so don\'t quote me on that.

Hmm, I do have a checkvalve in my kit, which is meant to sit between pump and injector, so maybe that would prevent such problems?

I\'m not even sure what the problem might be - surely once water is in the whole system (i.e. it has been used the first time), as long as you don\'t run the tank dry, it will always be under pressure and fire properly?

Coolingmist is the same - pump needs to be close to the tank, as they aren\'t very good at \'drawing\' on the low pressure side - you can engine mount the pump if you use a low pressure pump to feed the main pump, but it will happily push 150 psi up a few metres of thin nylon hose.  Probably better to rear mount it too, as the thing is huge

Yeah, it ain\'t small, that\'s one of the problems with mounting in the engine bay! :chat I suppose they\'re expecting you to put the water tank in there as well, hence the instructions.

Right, you\'ve pretty much made up my mind that having had the entire boot trim off to fit the tank, I\'m now going to remove it again to fit the pump in place of the passenger-side toolkit... :2Rolleyes ;)

Any tips on wiring please? If I remember, the workshop manual doesn\'t reveal the colour-coding for the wiring looms, so any knowledge about which is live/ignition/ground is most welcome!

Did you guys wire up to the rear looms or run the wires all the way down the car to the main dash loom? I guess it might be easier to do that as the rest of the electrics will be down the front (boost switch, operating LED etc.)

efiniste

My battery\'s in the rear bins so I just ran a feed from there.

I ran the control wiring up to the front using the loom box that runs along the passenger side sill (inside the cabin). There\'s enough room in there for a water pipe and the wiring, but only just!

Hi,
For a different perspecive, mine is mounted in the space where the front light used to live.

I have the twin round head light conversion, so the pump fits nicely in the redundant space, which is next to the original washer bottle which now contains water and methanol 50/50 mix.

I use the rear washer bottle to supply water to the front and rear screens.

Thanks guys. Went for the boot/toolkit replacement option as it was the easiest/neatest and once in place seemed to work fine (i.e. water came out of the pipe at the other end when tested!) However, having gone to the hassle of locating a 1/8th NPT thread tap and several hours work (mostly my future father-in-law\'s, but hey...), it now seems to have zero effect on air temps! I\'ve been told by Cooling Mist that the cause of my problem is the pump not being below the tank (i.e. gravity fed). I\'m getting an air lock at the input (pump) side of the checkvalve.

Does anyone else have a Cooling Mist setup with the pump above the tank? Gmogle, you say yours is where I\'ve put mine (replacing the toolkit), is it a Cooling Mist setup and if so, how come yours works and mine doesn\'t!?

My setup is:

Tank > Pump > Checkvalve > Clog detector > Injector

gmogle

Yeah mate, mines a coolingmist one (dual stage wi kit), I also have a UK spec water tank and its plumbed in there and not having any issues. Silly question but is the water line reaching to the bottom of the tank ?

Any airholes in any of the piping ?
Guess the pump is the same ?
