hi i am seriously thinking of saving for an Gen 3 RX after the pulsar , i read alot of the posts on here adn think that the RX7 is bar far the best looking jap car there is

at 300bhp can anyone say if htis is easily obtainable on Gen 3 RX and what kind of mpg you get.

im know they are not the most economical like the Pulsar but just been hearing horror stories of 10mpg and below:rolleyes:

would appreciate any help

the pulsar i reckon averages 15 at 240bhp:)

300 FWHP is relatively easy to get - ECU (plus mapping) with de-cat should put you about there.

I get ~17mpg from mine (ported rebuilt engine, ECU, de-cat and cat-back).  Was dyno\'d before ECU and de-cat at 241 RWHP (299FWHP).  Old cat was knackered and restricting boost above 6400 RPM so I may be up in the 260-270 at the wheels.

ECU, de-cat and mapping will set you back in the region of a grand.

Apexi ECU+cat back+down pipe+boost controller+map/tune=253 rwhp for me even with the cat.  Quite what that equates to at the flywheel is open to debate but it\'s over 300.

Hey Iain did you hear how much Floyd was played at Rotorstock today?  "If it wasn\'t for the nips ...."  LOL

thanks guys that appreciated

so they are quite easy to tune like the pulsar..good stuff

to be honest id prb get one from newera or something as i want one with a rebuild gauranteed, on it.

the pulsar is good but just fancy a more relaxing car to drive :)

I\'m not convinced "relaxing" is a word you can ever use in combination with FD driving. If you\'re not fairly careful with it, and you\'re not used to big power RWD cars, it\'s very, very easy to crash.

Tuning is easy enough as long as you go the right route - Iain and Kevin both have aftermarket ECUs, and that should be the first thing you get.

After some decent tyres of course :)

i drive my mates s13 a few times, like the feel of the rwd\'s but love the shame of the FD:)

im not stupid enough to not respect the power.

I managed my best mpg figure so far this weekend - just a tiny smidge over 18mpg :D
I\'m pretty happy with that since all my driving this weekend was fast A/B road stuff. The car\'s totally standard apart from an induction kit and recently rebuilt...
Did you mean the \'shape\' of the FD? ;)

MattyGTI-R

yes mate lol shape of the FD. :)

was trying to impress with my speed typing lol

JUst worked mine out, approx. 17.5mpg, all A to B roads and only 2 junctions at constant speed on a motorway so not too bad and yes the shape of the RX is simply the best:cool

My last three tanks have been 17, 16, 16 in terms of mpg - mostly country roads to work, very little town driving but I\'m not particularly light on the throttle pedal either.

The bummer is, three tanks of optimax at 86.9 a litre is £150 on fuel and running an FD on anything else is taking unnecessary risks with the engine. I can only afford it because it\'s a weekend car, I\'d look very carefully at the mileage you need to do with it, especially with the way petrol prices are going to go this summer.

A well-specced s13 is fun, but it\'s really not in the same league. The point to watch out for is 2nd turbo spin up (4500 rpm or so) breaking traction in any gear up to and including 3rd (happened more times than I could count in my first 6 months). And any time it\'s wet, ever. It might actually be worth doing one of those performance driving courses for rwd - I know one of the FDUK (//www.fduk.org) guys is a qualified instructor and word is they\'re well worth the money. I don\'t mean to overstate this, it\'s just that going from quite-well-behaved awd to mental-rwd (no traction control either) has immense potential for problems. It\'s happened a few times with scooby to FD switches, and it really (really) sucks to smack your new car up a week after you get it.

scooby_si

i\'ll have you know it was slightly longer than a week :p lol but all learning is a good thing......

Ah, I wasn\'t even going to mention your name Si ;)

I whacked the bumper on mine on a kerb the day after I got it, it just didn\'t turn in the way I expected. Bit of a salutary lesson really, it\'s the only time I\'ve not felt in control of a car I\'ve been driving and I was only doing about 25mph.

When\'re you back on the road? I\'ve been half-following your repair threads but it hasn\'t been looking too promising :(

i\'ve told you b4 Gurj I AM NOT HANDLING IT  lol (Si runs & hides b4 OJ & Grinder start off again lol)
But yes it aint a car you can afford to have a lapse in concentration while driving specially on wet twisties (it\'s a subaru term.....lol)

mpg figures....................
rotorstock 375mile round trip on \'A\' roads only, little bits of fun here and there and managed about 23mpg, only running 8psi(298bhp) at the moment on single turbo
