How do I attach a harness to the rear strut bar?

My strut bar is the stock one (covered in spongy plastic) and the harness just has a metal plate with a hole in it (usually gets screwed down i spose)

Are there any special fixings?   Need to be strong right?

We\'ve been through this before, and I think we all came to the conclusion... DON\'T!!!! The rear strut brace isn\'t designed to be loaded front and back, and will bend like a fine brie in an accident!

Either use the rear seatbelt mounting points or put spreader plates under the boot and drill through there.

Do not attach a Harness to the strut brace its not desgined for it!!

Either get some load plates up in the back or use the rear seat belt mounts.
If you do a search there is plenty of topics about fitting them

Fixing a seat belt to the strut bar is a big NO! The load forces that are transmitted through the belts in the event of an accident will fold the strut bar like a piece of paper. Not what you want.

Ive got 4 point Willans harnesses in mine and have used the rear selt belt pick up points. You can either remove the seats or leave them fitted, ive removed  mine. Another way is as the guys have said, use a load spreader plate on the underneath of the boot and fix in there. DONT try and use any of the other bolt fixings as they are not designed to take the loads.

Hope this helps.

You will need a specially made bar (replaces your stock one) machined from billet steel and has threaded holes for the eyelets . I got my one from Rotary Extreme in the states, althought I don\'t think they are trading anymore.

Got mine attached to rear roll cage

but as others have said big no round the standard strut brace

RedRummy

Oh, OK, good job I checked...

I swear I\'ve seen pics on here with harnesses round the strut brace (one straight out of Pips workshop no? maybe that was an aftermarket strut)

Anyway, I\'ll fit it to the seatbelt mounts then (got some eyelets down there anyway)

I though it was also a no no to have the angle of the strap that goes behind you at more than 45deg to the horizontal (that\'s pointing downwards instead of straight back)?  Presumably because the seat will also be experiencing those forces and could rip forward...?!?!

It would be aftermarket. I used to have a Tein one that could hold the weight of the harness as it was stainless steel.

Just easier to clip them to rear seatbelt mounting holes.

I still be a bit dubious of using the rear strut brace regardless of the material it\'s made of, as the only thing holding it to the chassis is the 3 (pretty small really) studs from the suspension top mounts. Chances are they\'d go long before anything else ;)

It\'s not ideal to have them at such and angle, the best would be spreader plates in the boot, but it\'s certainly the most preferable solution IMHO.

:D

I did do a search on harnesses, but it came back with about eleventy ten million results about rollcages LOL

I\'m liking the CG-Lock thing in that link though.... but £50 a shot!  ouch!

Gonna try and put my harnessess into the rear seatbelt positions.

I think I got my CG Locks for something a bit less than that... Was on a promotion at the time I think.

Plus I\'d have had to have purchased harnesses as well, so worked out the same kind of money, then I\'d have had the same headscratching with the install... Literally 5 minutes and they were attached :D
