As above, seeing as I am having problems finding a n/a engine to go in my fc rx, I have no turned to my other choice of a turbo II engine in her, have found a few fc turbo engines for good money with low mileage, questions is what extra parts will i need to make it all work i.e. ecu, loom, mounts etc please advise me to keep the old girl going!?! Many thanks James :D

Prof

mounts are probably the same, but you\'ll need the loom and ecu for starters.  Plus the Turbo engine has the top mount intercooler, so you\'ll need the TII bonnet with the scoop in it unless you want to go front mount.

I\'m sure there is more to it than that.

Cheers, yer prob just get a fmic, also prefer the look of the standard bonnet, thanks!

FD3SNuttah

theres A LOT more to it than that LOL!

The engine will go straight in. you will also need the front part of the exhaust to Y pipe

You will also need to do a fair but of wiring to make it go. ask PDTalyor - im sure he had a couple of EGI engines.

theres an EGI on ebay for £250... might be worth a punt just for its engine?

James H

Right sure just be a case of shorting or lengthing part of my stainless steel system, the guy from RE:Worx is doing the job, which he has done before.
Yer was looking at that one earlier but i\'ll just end up with same problem as i have now, a rebuild! Which is what i am trying to avoid,

Brett

You will want the gearbox too, and the dash etc

what makes you think a 2nd hand turbo II engine wont die any quicker than a 2nd hand egi?
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

James H

No not saying that at all, just if i am gonna be throwing money at the car like i have to i wouldn\'t mind making some gain out of the how thing. The shell of my rx is really clean & rust free, plus it is black like i always wanted, so for the extra it cost a turbo engine in its worth it. me thinks (which is alot easier to get hold than an egi engine), i brought an egi engine from a jap importer (the only egi engine i found) it arrived & was the 4port model so had to go back, i have now found a few companies with turbo engines low milage & half year garuntees on them for the same price, so this is my 2nd choice, 3rd choice is to then either get my egi rebuilt or find a low mileage car & use the engine.

dthebuk

well demonrx4 is selling his egi for £250. may be the same one that was mentioned earlyier. Depending on how much work you want to do, if you took the engine out of that, replaced the apex and water seals im sure you wouldnt end up spending too much money, and you would have a decent engine

Is he indeed, do you know where it is advertised & the details of the car?? Well the whole reason i am doing all of this is because my water seal has gone on my egi engine she only has 80,000miles on here so trying to avoid the 2k+ rebuild bill.... if i can!

dthebuk

not sure where its advertised, went to see it yestruday tho. The engine has 80k original miles and engine, its got some wicked dials too :D. Paint work isn\'t too good but there isn\'t any rust apart from the sunroof. I belive it has an uprated panel filter. It doesn\'t have mot or tax. Its an E reg with the old spoiler.

i think it would we great for the engine tbh, i was thinking of buying it myself but ive decided to go down the turbo route in the future.

The main thing is the engine doesn\'t need a rebuild so if you were to partially rebuild it it would be cheaper than to rebuild yours

if you have a good shell you would be better off buying a rotten turbo 2 for 3 or 4 hundred quid, get them side by side and swap what you need.

some items will include,

diff, prop, fuel pump, down pipe, gearbox, clutch, engine, ecu, all engine bay bits, like air flow meter, MAP sensor etc etc etc

Yer my plan but have been searching but no luck :( so is why i am also serching for an engine.

James a good TII engine might cost you £500 or so, it really would be worth your while in getting a good scrap TII with a good engine. You will need so many bits.  My white FC went from a S4 TII(JDM) to a S5 TII(UK) and the work in that was all electrical.  I had to change the entire car harness from the front right to the back tail lights.  Its not a bad job and gives you the chance to get things tidied and re-wrapped.  In your case is your car pre-1989? If you are going to go for a TII engine then you might as well go for the later 1989 ones as they were better BHP wise, turbos were better and generally I am finding the spares are easier to find for the TII 1989 and up.
People have already stated what has to be changed so dont underestimate the work involved, its straight forward but going to be time consuming.
