About to purchase an rx8

Hi guys im new here so little help please
 
 
Im about to purchase a 04 plate rx8 and just wondering if this is a decent price.
 
Its the 231 model with 27000 miles on it, 1 owner with full mazda history. Its totally mint bodywork/interior wise and i took it for a test drive and all seems solid.
 
 
The asking price is 9,995 is this any good? Also could you give me anything i should look out for before purchasing?

i would say its a bargain but depends on condition, engine, extras - sunroof sat nav etc, service history among others.

Thats the exact advert there.  I seen a couple cheaper than that around the 8 grand mark but they were all high milers and the 192 model.  I dunno what the specs are like on rx8 but im guessing heated seats and xenons are extras?

Hello Terry and welcome to Mazdarotaryclub,

Here you go, here\'s a few things to check before parting with your hard earned money,

1/ Before starting the car check for any white goo on the oil dip stick as this can be a sign of water seal failure which is the same as head gasket failure with a piston engined car, however if the car only has been doing short runs or stood for a long time this will normally account for that so don\'t be deterred initially if you see this, just ask more questions and also ask if they have been "topping" up the water system.

2/ The car should start straight away without lots of tuning of the starter and run smoothly from cold with no smoke.


3/ Next take the car out and get the water up to normal running temperature then turn the engine off and wait 5 minutes and check that the car starts instantly, this is because unlike a piston car if the engine is low on compression it will struggle to start,

Apart from the above treat it like looking at any other car, i.e. find out the cars history as regards servicing and repairs etc

The above is not to scare you as the likelihood of the car being faulty as described above will be rare and you will be looking at a damn nice car compared to other cars from different manufactures on the market for the same money

Cheers for the tips clive, im pretty good with cars (previouslly owned a 200sx s13 you have to be ) but the rotary engine is a bit scary looking.  Your 100% right though about it being a damn nice car for the money.  It was something i never really thought of, just stumbled across one and :InLove

The leather seats are heated as standard but the black and red leather would have been extra (about £1,500 from new I think) and the xenons and everything else listed are standard on the 231s except for cruise control - now that is unusual. Mazda refused to fit cc in the UK so a few people have done it themselves - had all sorts of issues with the ECU upgrades. So I would want to know a bit more about that, like who fitted it.

Same as the one your looking at but done 36,000 miles but with satnav and parking sensors. It also has full mazda dealer history.
 


 
Its a bit different to drive to my last car a e36 328i sport , you have to rev it much much more. Still quicker through the gears tho .
