Twin boost guages

I\'m thinking of setting up twin guages, one before and one after the IC in order to see what the pressure drop is.  Anyone else running a similar system, if so, where have you taken your feeds? :wave

We are running a similar idea too.  Having designed our new rads, I am keen to see what the effect of the intercooler is in both cooling and pressure drop.

So I am running 5 sensors, 3 temps and 2 pressure

They are bossed into the pipes

Make sense. I\'d take one feed from the plenum, and for the other, you can get nipples which are designed to push through silicon - you drill a small hole, and then bolt them through like a bolt up tyre valve. You could put one in a coupler pre IC.

How air tight are these fittings though?

Extremely good when used within the Samco hoses.

We are a stockist for Revotec so just need to know the size of the fitting and I can quote for you.

Obviously there will be a slight club discount over the usual RRP :)

Well, I\'ve pressure tested them at a static 2 bar in the IC pipework on my old car with no leaks at all :)
IIRC mine was about a tenner , possibly 6/7mm OD

I suggest that you calibrate the guages side by side initially on the same pressure source, and record and mark on them what the difference in the readings is.
What you are looking for is a small difference in two absolute pressure readings rather than using a gauge that measures differential pressure.

Just suppose that the intercooler pressure drop was 0.3 of a bar, but the gauges differed by 0.1 bar. you could get readings of 0.2 bar differential  or 0.4 bar differential. an error of 100%.

Plan B.  Use some flexible plastic tubing to create a water manometer. connect it across the intercooler and see what the difference in levels is.
1 metre water level difference = 0.1 bar give or take. Its a bit tricky on the move though.
Probably better static. or use it to calibrate your gauges

Don\'t know of my explanation makes any sense

I think I\'ll go and lie down now !!

Thanks Martin - I had already considered that point :)  But it\'s a good reminder for anyone else, and the logic applies to all guages/sensors you intend to install.  :wave
