Hey guys, I just thought I would ask about this, if I were to change my rear boxes for something different would universal backboxes work ok with rotarys. Im just asking cause I know for a fact that rotarys run UBER hot lol im just worried if I get a \'universal\' backbox which is designed to run at piston engine temps and I drive round and it melts lol Just thought I better ask :)

Pretty pointless with the stock pipework. Get a decent catback - they can be had for less than £150 secondhand - flows soooo much better than stock system with a chav box slapped on.

nothing wrong with universal back boxes. Just make sure theyre made well since rotarys seem to like removing baffling lol! Not a bad option seeing as FC back sections are hard to find!

m4drx

you can get proper jdm ones designed by tuning companies with performance and engine in mind not worth chavving it up in my eyes. never seen an rx of an age with one.

i dont see it as chavving it up...universal backboxes can sound and look good...yeah they might not offer much more flow but thats not everyones cup of tea

Well my exhaust isn\'t stock it seems lol I guess the OEM system rusted, this system is an unknow make, but its a turbo back system as its removed the two cats from the downpipe lol im still running the single main cat and that will stay until I get an E-manage and take out the airpump :) I guess I could try and get a different twin exit cat back system, plus how can an FC be chavvy lol I don\'t think a chav can afford a turbocharged rotary that does 12mpg lol :D

m4drx

ok get a system fabbed up. you should be able to get a nice job done at a good price with right diameter piping and just use a fc/fd back box. :)

I know a racing beat exhaust was dynoed, from a stock FC system to the full racing beat turbo back system, the increase in performance was 57bhp :) lol I guess I could go to a custom place, but ive seen some shocking bad work at some of them, I would say that I will go and copy what the JDM FC3S\' look like, but my car is a UKDM...so UKDM it stays :)

Im not knocking my system, I just was wondering if I was able to get a universal exhaust hmmm

Does anyone actually know if thats OEM lol

There are a few "off the shelf" system availible for the FC. Not many are cheap though, especially if you want a twin one.

m1tch

Hmm I see, I think I will concentrate on the other end of the system then, I guess it already has the downpipe replaces, so that must have freed up a few extra horses lol and yeah I would want a twin system, cause the bumper has 2 cutouts for a twin system lol ah well :) at least it hasn\'t rusted :D

Looks like you have aftermarket boxes on the car anyway,

Many many years I stuck a couple of universal boxes on my old Gen2 and burnt the stuffing out real quick making the car VERY LOUD, car alarm setting off LOUD,

Yeah mine are aftermarket, cause the original FC exhaust would have rusted lol but its been done properly as its got a full system from the turbo back still keeping the main cat and it also has blanking plates on one of the solenoids that wasn\'t needed. I think its probably as far as you can go whilst not having to worry about the MOT.

Yeah I thought that aftermarket universal backboxes might just melt or be damaged somehow cause of the heat, I mean my car still has the main cat in and it happily pops every now and then between gear changes etc :D I was about to ask about those cherry bomb exhausts, but then I thought that they might be a lot louder than stock lol hmmm.

Are those titanium systems worth it? I do want a twin exit though, cause I have seen an FC with a single exhaust and it just doesn\'t look right cause of the twin OEM cutouts, and I am thinking of getting a GP sports kit in a few years time, which also has twin cutouts.

What size exhaust would be optimal? Im guessing mine is probably a 3" system, I know for turbo cars the bigger the better, but would there be much gain if I got a custom 3.5" system made up, im only running a stock turbo and stock injectors at the moment.

aww sorry! lol I guess I do like like it to be symetrical, I personally think it looks like its missing a backbox with running only 1 backbox cause there is a cutout on the other side for a backbox that isn\'t there, hmm I guess I could run a single if I did some fibreglass work to patch up the cutout :)
