Hi,

Took my car for a little spin after it all going back together.

It seems to me i have a boost leak but it is strange. when i accelerate (not hard as it has not been mapped yet) when she gets to 1500ish i get a sound like a party blower. This is nowhere near the first turbo kicking in (I think) so can this be a boost leak???? When i accelerate abit harder i can feel the first turbo kick in and she pulls hard but the sound is still there but does not get any louder. When i let off i get the ppsssttttt of the dump valve. I would appreciate some help because i dont want to take her for a mapping session with a leak as it would be a waste of time and money.

Another question:-

The knock reading on the apexi !! does this indicate if the engine is running lean and that detination might occur. I am saying this because the exhaust smells abit like fuel & the most knock i have seen on the knock reading is 15. Is there a safe limit for knock. I want to get this boost thingy sorted so if i drive it hard and keep within a certain knock limit would this be safe to do????? And what is a safe limit for the knock reading before detination occurs????

Can\'t help with the knock - the highest i\'ve ever seen is 30.
But the squeal - does it sound a bit like someone blowing over a blade of grass? My guess would be either tubby>Manifold gasket, or block>manifold.

Hi,

I have just gone fore a little drive and accelerated in 3rd turbo kicked in and boost went to about 7 1/2 this if i am right is stock boost level so i presume no boost leak!!!!

Sih yes that is pretty much the sound i am hearing but will i be seeing the above boost if the gasket is gone or the manifold is blocked???

Cheers Garith.

Yeah, if it\'s only a small leak - the turbo will keep spinning and supplying pressure until it reaches the boost level set by the actuator, so you can have a reasonably large leak and you\'ll ge the turbo spinning it\'s nuts off and still producing decent boost.

I don\'t know if it\'s the same for the FD, but in my experience with other turbo car\'s that\'s the classic symptom of one of the above gaskets on it\'s way out.

How hard of a job is it to change the gasket??? would the turbo\'s need removing? And could it damage the turbo\'s if i keep driving it?

Garith.

SiH

Depends which one it is, Not anything i\'ve ever looked at on an FD, but i\'m about 90% sure you\'ll need to take tubbies off at a minimum :(

GaseJo

Thats a big job to do which i dont really want to do unless i know for definate that the problem is the gasket anyone else got any thoughts on this?
