Right, ideas people ?

Ive just spent all mourning trying to figure out where i can put a number plate on my rx7. At the moment im toying with the idea of a sticky plate on the bottom of the front bumper but cant find out if this is legal or not.... instead of having it tie wrapped :2eek to the metal mesh as it is at the mo restricting airflow! (not by much but it is :2Rolleyes)

ive seen all types of rx7 with diffeerent bodykits to the one mine has with the number plate stuck onto the bottom lip of the bumper, but i wouldnt exactly say its very seeable.... and the last thing i want is the ole bobbys pulling me over and giving me a fine because you cant see it or read it! :reallymad

if anyone has any pics or ideas of were to put it that generally looks ok and is not sticking out like a sore thumb please post so i can get an idea of what it looks like before i go ruining my paintwork.

heres some cars that ive seen with it in the position i would like thoughts ? any others ?

cheers for reading all the gibberish ive posted hopfully i will get some replys! :evillaugh

Well, i\'ve got mine on the top of the bumper (similar to the last image you show), and i\'ve not had any probs yet - nor apparently did the previous owner.

Regarding other options, i noticed a number of folks have their plate inside the car, on the dashboard (shoved right forward to the bottom of the windscreen).

Also, i may be talking out the wrong end here, but i recall that only the rear plate visibility is mandatory - there\'s more flexibility for the front one.  However, it\'s been a good 15 years since i last bothered looking at the highway guide, so you may want to check that for yourself.

might be the way to go then, hopfully as you say theres a more relaxed position on front number plates , ive looked at the dvla "law" :evillaugh on number plates and it doesnt really fill you with confidence on where you can put the front plate ..... ie i the first sentance fron the dvla pdf on number plates

A number plate must be displayed at the front and rear of motor vehicles (with some exceptions).

yeah ok but what the ell are these exceptions ehh ? (typical governmental schpeil :2Mad meaning we the goverment will give you some exceptions but hey you might get fined anyway :Grrr)

If the car wasn\'t type approved for UK domestic sale and does not provide adequate room for normal sized plates, you can alter the size of the plate and characters from the standard, but I don\'t know how small you can legally go. I\'ve had a sticky plate on two FDs for a total of three and a half years, never had any problem with either the Dibble or the MOT. I also had one stuck in the windscreen when I first registered my red FD and couldn\'t be bothered to sort out a mounting bracket or a sticky one (which I eventually did) and also had no problems, though I didn\'t try to MOT it like that.

My rear plate is a bike-sized one with a carbon fibre plate mount to fill in the aperture in the bumper. Purely because it\'s smaller than a standard Jap one and, speaking cynically, the smaller, dirtier and less legible my plate is the happier I am for reasons that are probably obvious lol

Yup - the stick on ones are technically illegal, as the rear surface of a numberplate is highly reflective.  According to the DVLA and VOSA they know of no stick on number plates that to conform to current legislation. Why they cant make the back of the highly reflective surface stick I have no idea!

As for number plate size, as Nik said, you can have a smaller numberplate if your vehicle has nowhere to have a standard size one, as long as its an import.  The exactl sizes are on t\'interweb, and a number of onlien numberplate sellers list various sizes and font sizes to conform to stadard Jap / US sizes.

I\'ve got mine in the front of my window on my dash and ive had no problems with the law and i frequently see them. My next door neighbour is a copper and she says as long as you can see it in your window your alright. :)
I removed mine because it was restricting airflow, plus it looked sh1te stuck on the front ;)

He\'s using his discretion as a Police Officer. What a refreshing change! The danger is if you encounter a jobsworth, if he feels it isnt visible enough, following the letter of the law he can take action.

Your a bad man mr Interloper LOL! :evillaugh

Yeah, as long as you can see the plate im sure you\'ll be alright, but you can always use the \'it fell off on the way home Mr Officer Sir!\' ;)

Cool guys thats refreshing to know, i do have a jap import so thats good if i can make it slightly smaller as it does generally nearly take up all the space on the front main hole in the body kit, and as you say apart from it doing that it also looks really tattie ash!.

Mind you i live in a place where you very rarley see the ole bobby knocking about but you never no, knowing my look the first time they seen me with a moved number plate would probly be the last :spank

well guess i can now spend all day looking for a legal size plate to put else where now that i know what others are doing

Cheers Fellas :yes

When doing SVA I have always been told that a front numberplate should be mounted on the first suitable vertical surface of the car!

Love our curvy cars! :Giggle
