Hi all,

Still waiting on bits to finish off engine bay. So today i thought i would relocat my new odyssey battery & reinstall my ICE.

I decided to install the battery into the drivers side storage bin because if ever i need to get something out of a bin being the driver the passenger one would be easiest to acces. I started off by removing the lid. Then i made a template to make a flat bottom for the battery to sit on. Once i had a rough template i transfered it onto a piece of 9mm MDF, Jigsaw out the shape then tried it into the bin. Fitted like a glove. Sat the battery in place then realised even though small it is quite weighty. So cut another base piece so now the base is 18mm thick alot more sturdy. Next was to make a template for a top piece basically to hold the battery in place. This had to be almost perfect fit as it is seen. I took my time cutting this out and it fitted sweet. Next i thought about the battery and wondered how hot it would get so i decided to put hole ventalation into it. Instead of drilling holes all around i carefully cut out RX7 & the Efini sign into the top. Put the battery into place and then started to run wires from ICE, Solar trickle charger, Blue neons (that are inside the new battery box sao when darke the cutouts glow blue). I ran the EARTH to a bolt behind the rear side panel, and at the moment i am using my 4AWG power cable as the main power feed to the engine bay (Probably change later if i get any problems).

So now i started on putting my ICE install back together. Two 8" Subs each running off their own VIBE amp, 1.5 farrad VIBE power cap. From a previous thread i have had this setup for about a year and not used it as the car was in pieces. So turned it all on put a Clubland CD in and cranked it up to half way. CRYSTAL clear sounds with a nice little thumping in my back. So up went the volume 80% Vol and the components started to loose the clarity but the thumping was winding me LOL. The components are running straight off the Headunit so might get a dedicated amp for them (if i can find somewhere to pu it).

All in all not a bad morning (apart from the bloody Royal mail who still have not delivered a parcel with the final bits for my engine)

Just need to cover the Sub Box front and the battery lid (probably cover in carbon stick on stuff) Then thats one more job to tick off the ever decreasing list.

On the final count down to getting her on the road. I CAN\'T WAIT.

Thanks for reading this. Here are some pics.....

Cheers Garith.

Nice job. Is that battery up to it?

Hi mate,

They are very good by all accounts. But to be safe i fitted the solar trickle charger just in case.

Is that the thing that looks like a solar panel on top of the sub box (that\'s a really stupid question, isn\'t it? doh!). I was wondering what it was looking at the pics. Sounds like a cunning gizmo to have! How well does it work?

GaseJo

Hi Nik,

So far so good. It has been connected to the battery for about a week. I have been starting the car daily & running for about 10-15 mins. The battery seems to be holding between 12.4 - 12.7 v.

Cheers Garith.

Thanks Dragon I am pleased with it just needs covering and it will blend in.

Hi Karl, It really depends on what install you have in mind as the sub(s) need an optimum space for best sound. I have seen sub boxes that fit into the spare wheel well but i thought with that setup the boot space is basicaly wiped out. I made mine so that i can still use the wheel well and i still have a fair amount of boot space.

Hi Garith, looking to do the same thing with mine, couple of questions if you dont mind....

How is the top MDF Secured to the bin mount?
What fuse/mcb setup have you got running in the new lead to the battery?
And is the Battery basically just "sitting" in the bin or bolted down?

Hi Mate,

No i dont mind the questions.

At the moment the mfd is not secured in place it just sits in the rebate where the bin lid used to sit, Once i have covered it in carbon i will probably use some self tappers and screw cups, But saying that i have driven it a few times and it has never bounced loose and i have very stiff suspension LOL.

I did not use any fuse inline with the new power cable just ran from old battery connection on the small fuse box to the new positive on the battery.

Inside the bin i have put a base in to make the bottom level and about half way up i have cut another piece of mfd with the battery hole cut out. So it sits on a solid base and half way up & at the top of the battery it is held in place to stop it sliding.

Cheers Garith.

Its hard to tell from the pics but looks like only the cap is fused???

You really want to be fusing the power supply to the rest of the car before driving it...

Looks good Garith! Very neat job with the new storage bin cover. :yes I\'ve been toying with the idea of a similar install thing with a single 10" sub where you have the 2 x 8".
Made a couple of cardboard templates but it\'s going to be very tight from what i can see. With your experience now, would you think it\'s possible to do with a 10"? :3Confused
