standard ecu?

i got a cliffard g5 concept alarm do could this be the one electronic problems? sorry if this sounds stupid but this is all new to me.

where is the ecu situated just so i can make sure it is standard before i get a better one. cheers.

Its in the footwell by the passengers left foot behind a black plastic panel.

i knw you can run a decat pipe with the standard ecu coz you run the risk of popping the engine but i was wondering if i could leave the cat on and put the cat back on. would this have the same dangers. got a standard exhast at the moment but got a cat back in the garage and it is killing me not being on the car. i was hoping that i could fit the decat in a few months when i can afford a good ecu.

I had a fully decatted zorst ending in a mahoosive HKS backbox and filters on my Mon Blue FD for a year and a half, and when I got it from the owner previous to me it had a Racing Beat box that was full of holes and blew itself to bits shortly after. He\'d had that and the decat pipe on there for about three years prior to me owning it. Standard ECU!
 
So it was about four and a half years on a wide open (and I mean deafeningly) free-flowing exhaust on the standard brain, and it didn\'t blow itself to bits. Just like Clive says, you could feel it overboost every so often, and the ECU would just cut everything down until it was safe again. Felt a bit scary at first, but one soon learned to live with it. Mind you, it did seem to be an exceptionally well re-built engine, I\'m not sure if a fifteen-year old unrebuilt one would be so tolerant!

so would i have to have a upgraded ecu yo run a cat back safely? the decat can wait?

It is a very good idea to wait on doing a decat MP until you have set up the rest of your system to properly support, and safely take advantage of, that mod.
