Probably an obvious answer but thought Id ask anyway...

Following on from my thread about truly awful fuel consumption;

The ecu on the missus car is jap. On ebay theres a few UK ecu\'s quite cheap. If I purchased a UK ecu can I just swop it over to test?

Im testing to see if the jap ecu has been \'fiddled\' with.

Is there anything to watch out for or any procedure that must be followed or is it \'plug&play\'?

Thanks

I don\'t know about any differences in the Stock ECU from Japanese to UK spec\'s..

have you checked her fuel filter, pump, injectors, O2 sensor, etc??

If you are going to buy a new ECU why buy a stock one?? I would suggest you drop a little bit more money and buy a good one which is mappable (PFC, F-Con, Haltech, etc). The mapping itself can be done to help improve fuel consumption.

Also, I\'d suggest NOT driving an RX-7 if fuel usage is your primary concern (I get 12-13 mpg, US Gallon at least). Get a little diesel daily driver for that.

The uk spec ecu is mapped for 95ron fuel, If you want to run the car standard it is a good idea to use one.
If you open up the ecu you can tell if it has been fiddled with. It will have a daughter board on and the chips that are extra will normaly have something printed on the ie RE-Amemiya or R-Magic or something similar.

Better mention they are sensitive to uv light so you need to be careful.

Uk was indeed mapped for 95 ron but the map also took into account for a more restrictive exhaust (precat).  Dont know what difference it would make (maybe none) but some of the nest was plummed up different for emissions purpouse\'s.  It would all run but I wouldnt want to risk it if it was me.

Would it not be better trying a same spec ecu.  Only if you find a difference with trying UK then you will be wondering what diff the jap one would have made? :)
