hi guys

i just wondered what induction kits and intercooler would be better to buy, you obviously modified your cars so you have some experience.

my concern is why to pay 190 pounds for hks induction kit if i can get something like that:

I cant remember where i read it but some magazine did a test on HKS/GReddy/Apexi filters, and there was a huge amount of difference in the amount of filtration, i think the Apexi came out with the best filtration.

If you fit cheap filters, and they don\'t filter out all the debris then your probably risking something getting thru and hitting a turbo impeller traveling at extremely high RPM and damaging it.

Of course i could be completely wrong and there could be members on here using cheap filters with no adverse effects, it\'s just not something i would want to risk personally, although i must admit you will probably pay a premium for the best named brands, safer than a wrecked turbo tho.

As for intercoolers, i fitted a blitz one to mine although i have know people fit the XS power ones from ebay and have had just as good results.

I\'m sure there will be a few people on here will soon enlighten you some more

I bought the seperate pipes and got K&N fitlers to fit them, got the best of both worlds. Looks great too

thank you, i realloy appriciate your opinion, obviosly i\'d like to hear more answers but this was something i needed to know. i need to change mine intakes , guy who i bnought my car from didn\'t give a monkey about it and i\'d like to get it working as it should, and then maybe modify it.

left one hasn\'t even got filter inside, it\'s just a bracket for it -  i mean it can\'t be better then cheaper intakes..:(

The hks ones have rubbish filtration. Only suitable for cars that need a massive airflow. Also located there they don\'t get much cold air. Stock box with a high flow filter is good or an arc box. As for intercoolers you get what you pay for. Cheap ones have crap cores and thin pipeing.

I have an ARC filter box with K&N filters if your interested?? Filters alone cost me £75!!
If your interested just get in touch mate ;)

I wouldn\'t want HKS mushroom filters on a rotary engine. The dish the foam seats into is really shallow, and it\'s well easy to not quite fit the foam in properly. That means that there\'s a gap at the edge sucking debris and totally unfiltered nasties straight in past the foam bit. On piston engine, it may put up with the occaisional foreign body in the chamber, so long as it doesn\'t clout a valve, it\'ll just spit it back out the exhaust. In a rotary, it\'ll whizz it around the housing a hundred times a second doing untold havoc. Eeek!

You don\'t neccesarily always get what you pay for! Plus you\'re paying the little extra premium just cause it says "HKS" on the box.

Anything of a good quality like K&N, Apexi or Blitz are good because firstly, they filter well and secondly the filter element is generally bonded somehow to the housing, or held on by a serious jubbly clip, so there\'s no way for bits to bypass the filter.

Yikes! NikRX-7 will you stop doing that scary sig thing! I\'m paranoid enough already, thanks!
