Right having a problem with my n/a fc she has been a bit funny at starting lately (really have to pump the gas thru alot & keep turning the ignition) but usually does start eventrualy but she now won\'t start at all, she just wont fire up, she will try her best but it is just like there is no fuel getting to it, you can hear her turning over strongly & all the ignition system seems fine.... any help or advice please !?!

James H

Help anyone am currently without a car   took all the plugs, leads & cap etc out cleaned them up, plugs are dark & wet with fuel so think i may have flooded the thing, will clean out in a bit but if it isn\'t that im a bit lost, help!?!

Prof

Poor starting could be down to low compression :(

Unflood it first, and give the plugs a work over - you might want to charge your battery or get a jump start to help fire it.

Cheers for getting back to me, she has done 80,0000 could she be on the way out when you say low compression??

grinder

humm could be .. when i had probs with my egi , i used to cheat :D

clamp the fuel line with locking pliers - crank and wait for her to fire , then get out and unclamp the fuel line - and she should run just fine :D

if this does work - you might want to fit a fuel cut off switch - this way when you have finished with the car - leave it running , cut the fuel and just as she starts to die , turn it off

with this method - it shouldnt flood again

also - with the plugs out - remove the EGI fuse , crank for 10 seconds , then crank again , and then again - this should remove all the fuel in the lines etc... and get shut of any excess fuel in the housing

then put the plugs in , egi fuse in , crank the car - but do not touch the throttle - make sure the battery is fully charged at this point though :D

:waveRight did all the above & still no joy! What was weird thou, was that no fuel squirted out of the spark plug holes just air!! So i take it my pump is naff!?!

dthebuk

doesn\'t the handbook say to just keep you foot on the floor when the engines flooded?  My car doesn\'t like warm starts and i have to do this everytime i warm start.

the TII had a cut off on cranking with WOT - not sure about the egi though

OK - what happens with the EGU fuse in , plugs out and then crank ? does fuel come out the holes ?

Hi Mate,

If the plugs where wet as mentioned earlier i think you have fuel going in.
How old are the plugs ? might be wise to throw in some new ones.

Have you checked for spark at the plug make sure the leads are clamped on and check the main engine fuse box, Theres one called "Main" iirc if this is blown it could be the root of the problem.

If she was flooded badly you will need to the following.
Plugs out.
EGI fuse out.
Some cloth besides plug holes to catch excess fuel.
Crank engine a couple of times.
A small syringe with engine oil - squirt a small amount into the housing.
Pop into 5th gear and push the car back and forward.
You will get a good seal between the apex seal and rotor housing.
Put plugs back in and EGI fuse.
Fire her up.
I\'ve found putting oil into the housing aids in getting compression on start up.

Right gonna have another crack at it soon but as i am starting to llok around will a FD fuel pump work on my FC without to much fabrication, thanks for your help??

James H

Right even with the fuses in no fuel was coming out, so must tbe something wrong with the fuel getting to the engine as she sounds like she is turning over really well but just nothing to fire up off!! Also have been looking into getting Walbro pump (is this wise or should i use something else)  as having great problems finding a fc pump!?!

grinder

you can drop a FD pump in no probs - what you have to consider is that it might not be the pump - the FC\'s have really bad wiring to the fuel pump - so i would check that first

get someone to crank the car - and see if you are getting 12v at the pump

if you are not - doesnt matter what pump you put in - it wont work

have a look on net for the re-wiring write up

Fuel Pump! very important for turbo\'d cars.

It is critical that your fuel pump is getting all the voltage it needs. It takes 10 mins max to test the voltage to the fuel pump.

Get your multimeter.

First attach your positive lead to blue wire and the negative lead to a good ground. The Wiring harness plug is located on the driver\'s side rear shock tower.
The color of the wire going into the plug is blue. The color of the wire coming out of the plug (going into the fuel pump) is black with white stripe.
Lift the carpet that covers the rear hatch area, Remove the rubber/felt noise deadener mat. You should be able to see the wires that run to the gas tank.

A stock FD3S fuel pump costs about 20-30$ used, and has 10-15% higher capacity.
