I\'m changing the front calipers on my FD at the weekend following the brake-toasting incident at Donington, not because I know they\'re knackered but cos I got a nice pair of freshly gold-sprayed ones from Tony C for £80! Having spent over £450 on new discs and pads, I don\'t fancy chancing the old calipers in case they make the same mess again (although I accept they\'re probably fine).

Has anyone got any tips on changing them? Will I need any special tools etc.? :)

Pipe clamps would be a good idea, followed by a good bleeding session.

They are easy, the most likely problem you will suffer is getting the fitting for the fluid undone on the old caliper. They round off easily. So use some of the \'freeing nuts\' spray, and make sure the spanner is a good fit. If they come off easily you should be able to get it done in an hour. Don\'t forget to bleed it afterwards!

Hmm, this is a bit of a coincidance, had a similar thread going exactly a year ago after my trip to Donny. Think its the high speed breaking into the chicane and at the end of the following streight as well lol.

Yeah, it wasn\'t even the full GP circuit! Mind you, I managed to do a day previously on the full GP fine before I put the Mintex pads in (although the brakes weren\'t as good!)

I\'ve got braided hoses so I guess the clamps won\'t be much use? My old man has proposed putting clingfilm over the top of the reservoir, which should hold the fluid in by vacuum - any comments on that?

Think i managed 14 fast laps last year before my breaks stated to complain. I was pushing on hard though. For this year I had new disc\'s n pads on, the shimes that go between the pads and the calipers and cold air ducting onto the discs. Didnt get a chance to try it all out unfortunatly.

Probably be wiser just to change the fluid at the same time m8 but im no expert.

Did you see the red mugen civic on track by any chance, belongs to a m8 of mine n he was telling me he was embarrasing a lot of cars lol.

Nah, didn\'t see and red Civics, there was a nippy white EK9 there last time (not quite as nippy as the Integras, of course.. ;) )

Can\'t really change the fluid as I can\'t get under the car for the clutch bleed, gonna top up with the existing fluid and get it changed as part of the MOT next week.
