I recently had a fd3s engine rebuilt and costed over £6000 by a company in the Norwich area(can\'t mention the name of course), The job I expected was hopefully going to be top notch. But this was not the case as the car had to be returned several times piggy backed on a trailor unit at cost because of water leaks around the turbo and places.

The car had other faults with loose fitting parts and say the least I was not happy. The car was luckily run every day for a journey to work no more than 30 miles in total.
I then got a the car back and was told all is now "OK". So I ran it to work a couple of times remembering to keep to all the instruction the dealer had told me. Keeping the revs down due to running it in.
Now on a trip back home the car decided to pop and the result was a rotor going again. The end result was the garage saying it was my fault as the cat convertor had desolved and run the management system to create this problem. Surely I could have been told about this possibly happening but when asked the answer I got was "sorry not checked that part".

The point is has this happened to anyone else and what was the outcome
the repair was not covered under the so called warrenty and cost another £1700 to get the car back off the garage.

Be careful when you look at the warrenty\'s as they have written and unwritten rules so make sure the garage has a really really good reputation. I learnt the hard way.

damn dude bad luck, didnt know there are rotary engine builders in Norwich, most of the companies the guys use on here use Hayward,WGT,Lindop,Reworx have good reps.
Never heard of a Cat converter, do you mean the catalytic converter collopsed? if so this would not cause the engine to pop on low revs, never heard of an engine popping of low revs anyway, sounds like they didnt put the engine together correctly, most companies on here will check the car to see what caused the original engine failure in the first place

Ouch! Bad news indeed!

But £6000!!! You must have had a lot of work done for that money! Then plus another £1700... You could have bought another car with a rebuild for that!

Yeh I agree to a point. Perhaps not all the way to a rebuild is required but any knowledge gained is helpful in preventing rogue garages conning you out of your hard earned cash.  If your only option is to take your car to a garage on each and every failure, major or minor, then I don\'t think an RX7 is the type of car for you ...unless of course you have a huge surplus of cash. It is difficult to conduct an argument with a " skilled technician " :rollin over bad workmanship if you don\'t have a clue as the workings of the engine or understand the problems.

Rotary specialist in the Norwich area - that\'ll be Jimmy\'s then. I am surprised to hear this as they have an excellent rep,

Am i the only person who can smell a rat here? The guy registered his account today and makes 1 solitary post which he claims not to want to name names, but then tells everyone that they are in Norwich (makes a massive implication as to whom he is reffering to)...seems a bit strange to me

who knows....... interesting profile details too?!

Mmmm also if he\'s had that many cars all turbo and a le mans v12 jag, then the rotary engine is FAR more simple than any of these to be honest... I\'d have thought a car enthusiest of ths nature would first understand the car you have surely ???

There is not anything intended and the name was kept off because of the legal issues etc etc. Ive registered today as wanted to find out more to the point if anything or anyone had a similiar problem. I decided to seek advise from the guys in the know, which seems to be you lot.

I thought the place had a reputation to go along with the price and expected a good job, but then failure after failure. Time to see if this has happened before.

The point is I have a FD3s modified and wanted the engine to be up to everyday driving after the dam thing blew. So as they say spend the money get a good job!

As you could exspect I have not been happy with the end result and now the engine is being run in again very carefully.

My next plan of action is to get it looked at by a proper RX7 specialist with racing background , thats why I am here. As far as names are concerned that have been mentioned I cannot remark on the mentioned places but you decide.

My next course of action is the interior and a full respray but if any of you guys see a custom bonnet for sale let me know, also the lights to be replaced.

I had a problem with said company. I had the car back after an standard re-build and the car blew an apex seal then had the car re-built again. I only managed to get this re-build done as the car was not running properly from the begining and i was advised to keep driving the car. Then the car was running ok, never the same as it was before though. The turbos wernt boosting properly so i took the car to carl haywood and he diagnosed a turbo fault which eventualy turned out to be the gasket failing between the exhaust manifold and the block. This had been bodged together with exhaust putty. I ended up paying £400ish for the gaskets from mazda and doing the job myself and i have the scars on my knuckles to prove it!!  The waranty is basically worthless as it doesnt cover detonation and this can be blamed for any engine failure.

I have put up a previous post with all these details and it is claimed that the turbo gaskets where changed which was obviously a lie.
