ok so some may know i that i have a bit of a cowboy intake setup
pics : http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47375

anyway, got the car back from rotechniks the other day and i was told the engine is taking in hot air. Though speaking to the previous owner, it seems the car takes in hot air when idling but when theres decent air flow through the car it actually takes in cold air.

anyway, had a bit of a chat with the guy and im undecided on what to do with the intake, so can you post up some pictures so i can get some ideas

thanks :Thumbs-up

grinder

what i have seen them do in the states is make a cold air box

and then have that feed from thru the front wing

this way it can only take air in from outside the car

You could buy a second hand bonnet and cut a vent in it over that area.  If you the reversed the angle of the pipework you would have a direct cold air feed to the filter.

how much are second hand bonnets though?
sounds like it would be hard to get hold of one

Last bonnet i got was free!!:D  Expect to pay between £50 and £100. Might be some for sale on here.

For an EGi bonnet you might be able to get one even cheaper :)

Or cut up yours now and look for a second hand one later ;)

the twin filters on my FD sit behind the fans which suck air through the radiator (larger uprated one) which sits parallel (almost touching) my intercooler (large uprated one)...

So basically, I have the same problem.. the filters are receiving the hot air that goes first through the intercooler then the radiator...

Need to sort some kind of cold air feed, but haven\'t got any front bumper space left!!  its full of intercooler and twin oil coolers!!

If I arranged some kind of piping (bendy pie like you get in halfrauds) and pointed it straight down, is it likely to send water splashes into the turbos??!

yea im not looking at spending that kind of money though, i have more important problems that need fixing and im low on money. Also there is likely to be a massive difference in the paint fade.

Could you not just mount 2 oil coolers on one side and have the other side as a cold air feed? would just mean that there will be 1 hot side and 1 cold side :)

Check scrap/car salvage dealers! You might get lucky??

Or I could quickly do you a low cost GRP bonnet lay-up? Quality/Thickness wouldn\'t be the best but it\'d be cheap and I\'d do it as a one off to break the mold in. You\'ll still be able to get a good surface if you put the work in flatting and polishing it. Wouldn\'t be too much work if you wanted me to just stick a little slat in for some cold air..http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47463Anyways contact me at: ben_s_lewis@hotmail.com if you want to discuss prices and options. I\'m still using the stock cold air feed that fits atop the radiator, and feeds cold air onto the mushroom filter.  I plan to go electric rad fan, so that means I\'ll be losing the ducting.  I will then build a cold air box as per Grinders post, and feed cold air in from the front bumper (in front of the rad) and pipe that into the cold air box.

The mushroom filter sit\'s quite high in the engine bay to make the most of the current cold air feed, and keep it away from engine heat.

thought about adapting a ARC box from the FD. Can pick them up from about £60,it\'ll look good as well.  I\'m looking to change my bonnet when i go FMIC, got a GP kit but also going to mod the front and get ducting to channel the air.
I\'d be interested in breaking your mould but i would want the ability to add a vent above the turbo.  If the bonnet is good then i will have a TII Alloy bonnet going, failing this i still might fabricate the TII bonnet for my needs.
