Buying and fitting a brand new engine.

Pros:?
Cons:?
Would you rather rebuild your old one?
Would you change the seals and/or O-rings that come with it?
What would you do to it to improve it? (porting aside)

How much could I sell my old engine for? ( runner, but needs water seals replaced)
Thanks

Shiuko

Checking the prices of a rebuilded and the price of a brand new engine, I\'m inclined to do the latest.

Any help?

How much do you love your car and want to keep it. If it were going to be my long term ride for everyday use I\'d look closely at a new engine - there\'s much less unknown then and things become much simpler. But presumably this secure comfort will come at a price. How much is that price?

It\'s all well and good ordering a 3K engine from RHD.....  Then you\'ll get hit for shipping taxes, duty etc.  Which based on that will bump the price up considerably.  Then there is also the issue of warrenty, assuming that the engine comes over in an ok condition.....  Then there is time/money factor of fitting the engine.

You can probably get a rebuilt ported motor with upto 2 year warrenty from a reputable builder in the UK for the kind of money it\'s going to cost you to bring over an engine.

Just my 2p though.

Mmm... yes, warranty at this distance from Japan is a problem I suppose. Can they be got through a UK supplier anywhere?

rotaryart list a brand new engine for £5400 inc vat :D

if it were me, i\'d rather do a DIY rebuild - I\'m about to start doing mine at the moment. Loads of online refrence material and help, DVD\'s and stuff. Nothing too complicated.

Shiuko

Well, over here at the dealership it will cost you over £5000.
RHD is selling then for £2800.

This car is mine to keep.
I don\'t want to make it any faster as it is fast enough as it is.

I don\'t know much about engines, but I can see that people over here are blowing their engines all the time, (maybe because of the big turbos and  porting:p), all that I want is a standard power engine with a better radiator, intercooler, exhaust and air filters.

Mods will be mainly cosmetical to bring it up to date, and for better handling. I\'ll be changing all of them bushes for poly, Teins superstreet with edfc and a Mazdaspeed PPF.

Getting it rebuilt will be cheaper, plus brighton is very close to super7autos give jason a call and he\'ll give you a rough estimate for best and worst case senario. 01903810139 he just did my rebuild and i thought it was very reasonable.

Yeah, I can second Jason at Super7Atuos... haven\'t had mine rebuild but know a few who have had theirs done there..

He\'s done a lot of the work on my car...   :Thumbs-up

Currently the pound is very crappy against the yen, so therefore:

Quote from: RHD JapanOur Price: GBP 3295.91   Shipped to   Great Britain (United Kingdom)    Express Air Mail

But what I was getting at is that regardless of wether it\'s £2800 to £3295 you will still get nailed on customs duty for bringing a package of that weight and size over so you can add atleast another few hundred quid on the price.

Then there\'s labour/time/money in fitting it.  Your not going to have much change out of £4K at the end of it.  Believe me we\'ve tried importing engine at our garage and it\'s just not worth it.  Especially seeing though you just want a basic spec engine.

I can supply you with a race spec engine for £6800, all brand new housings and rotors. Doweled and pinned large street/race ports and 3mm ceramic tips.

fduk me Mims thats expensive for a race engine even with ceramic tips, porting and pins.
You only need extra dowels and pins if you are running mega boost on a big turbo 2 BAR plus, is this your own engine you are selling, were you planning to make a 600rwhp beastie?

Possibly yes. 600 rwhp twin monster :D still uncertain on what to do with it really and uncertain on whether to go single or mahoosive twins. So might sell and go V8 instead get a reliable 450 bhp. I still want a bridge ported 20b N/A as well too much choice!

Twin 3540s or GT45 at 30psi on race gas on that engine you have there :D
